Maybe i have a different take than some:

Many seem locked into the mathematical semantics of making the 8. For mine that's somewhat irrelevant..that is...just making the 8.

Our 9 game run home sees us up against 4 teams that all but will be in the 8 and 2 ( maybe 3 ) that might upset us by looking for a scalp.

Its not enough to make the 8. You have to be there with menace. You have to be relevant and not a stocking stuffer.

If we don't win 6 of the next we wont be in any shape, gamewise or momentum to do much more than spectate.

Much work ahead...any more injury ( of note ) and a wheel will come off our little red and blue wagon.

The games against Richmond , Collingwood and Port reminded me of finals in so much as its PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE.

3 times ...for no wins

I wont be keeping September free.

I have a few different slants, in that i think that taking out the sickening Umpire decisions, Goody should use that game against that team, as a yardstick for the players to overcome the adversity, overwhelmingly and mentally, to win. That's the difference, the goal if you like, to win, to make the run from here and now. I know it's probably a bit early, but this is the place we are in now........

Im not fussed about games against Saints or Suns.

The test is the three against Eagles, Cats and Crows. They will all be like the Port game. Fast , furious, pressure... parochial crowd..on three of the worst away venues. I can just imagine the umpiring ?

Sydney will be very interesting. At least its the G...

Then we have the annoyance of snipers. All of Dockers, Dogs and Giants will want a scalp. We cant lose any if we are to go anywhere into Sept. The Saints and Suns will too...just no ammo for them to do so imho.

Good teams find a way home under the gravest of conditions. We don't (yet ) We struggle...and lose

Unless Goody gives the lads a different/better roadmap i can't see anything changing ( why would it )

6 wins is the minimum if we are to be fair dinkum.

Uphill run from here, but that is a good thing in one way.

This club just has to respect Hard Work, harder than it has ever worked before, and the next 9 weeks will be hard work.

Other coaches have worked us out

Counter Punch ? Goodwin??

can he do it?

They worked hard, but for 10 years we still haven’t got skill or leadership in big games.

That’s the Club driving standards. They are just not yet high enough...

Jack Watts is finding that out right now

Just did a ladder predictor. I had us finishing 8th, after beating GWS and Adelaide. On autotip, we finished 6th.

After the next two weeks, Collingwood don't have a great draw either.

As I said a few weeks ago, who really cares? Even if we make it, we'll play a final against someone like Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood or North, any of whom will belt us into next year.

Edit: Or GWS or Adelaide!

No he cannot

pretty sure posters here mentioned port height yet we went in short and it was admitted as much afterward

maybe the match selection committee can have a gander here first

If we are who we think we are - we will win the the next three games.

We played very well against PA - a very good team - but didn't make great decisions moving into the forward line.

I have 6 teams (2nd thru 7th) on 11 and 5 after Round 17 is done... We would be up to two games and percentage in the 8.

It would be tight but we just have to get there.

I just had a depressingly hilarious stat spring up into my mind: Will we end up having the highest % for a team that's missed the 8 (If we miss) - That is one record that nobody wants to ever have.

We haven't been to the finals in 11 years, and anything can happen once we get in there.

And it will give our players finals experience.

And we can easily beat any of those teams btw.

Cant believe any Demon supporter would not care if we made the finals or not.. mind blowing.  Why go through a decade of hell and then scoff at making the finals just cos you think we may lose in an Elimination Final.

Wouldn't it be a very good lesson and growing for the team and brand

I would be wrapped with 8th spot, I think we can do better but we absolutely need finals experience before we can take the next step, if we don’t make it it’s a massive fail and would set us back 12 months

we NEED to win a few upset games in the last 5-6.

At 8-3, our season was setup for 15/7. That’s 4th/5th.

Now with last 2 losses, 13/9 is the most realistic view which is a 7-9th position finish is the balanced view.   Probably have to win v Giants in round 23

We should have finished 8th last year, this year we should be aiming higher, and I actually think internally they are as Goodwin keeps saying he knows what they are capable of achieving, make no mistake, we have failed dismally this year in big games.

The AFL site says a new ladder predictor is to be relaesd by end of this month (June)

I agree on Pies. I think they are the team in real danger of missing 8. I have them on 11 firm wins and every other match  a tough one. If they make it they will fully deserve. Personally, I was pleased North got up.

I think Dees will make it, but my nightmare is meeting Hawks in first final.  North helped to keep them out by their win against the Dogs.

Saints - WIN

Freo - WIN

Dogs - WIN (although darwin trip makes me nervous)

Cats - 50/50 LOSS

Crows - WIN

Suns- WIN

Swans - WIN

Eagles - LOSS

GWS - WIN

15-7

I'm even more optimistic - Geelong at KP as a win and dependent on the Eagles 2 forwards - another one there - So I'm banking another 6 win in a row run, a loss to the Swans and another 2 wins in brutal hard fashion. 16/6 for mine... unless the wheels fall off.

If we don’t play finals this year, it is an enormous failure. That’s two seasons we have wasted in crucial development of getting finals experience.

Barring anymore disasterous injuries, if we don’t make the 8 again, questions will need to be asked. Coaching staff, leadership team etc will need to be reviewed. Simply not acceptable.

I think we'll win 6 more, beating St Kilda, Freo, Dogs, Suns, Crows and Giants

Losing to Cats, Swans and Eagles

I would've definitely taken 14 wins at the start of the year. It'll probably have us finishing in the 4-7 range

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
