Anyone have any idea how Dusty gets a fine for an ump push and Curnow get a week for an ump push?

Good old "Brownlow Contention" of course!

I must try that next time I'm bretho-d ... "officer, I am in contention for the Brownlow." "Carry on then, citizen."

I can't wait for a player to demonstrate to an umpire how he had been pulled around the neck and deserved a free.  Will they get a fine?

Not sure why everyone is surprised, the Brownlow quickly becomes a farce if both fyfe and dusty are missing, it’s all about $$$ to the AFL If they can get him off they will he would have to hit someone to get suspended like fyfe did, dusty is the most marketable player in the game he is almost untouchable it’s why he never gets pinged for high fendoffs and stuff like that

Too many umpires on the ground maybe??

Idiots run the game now

It's clear as day in the rule book. Intentionally making contact, attempting to make contact, carelessly making contact with an ump are all reportable offences.

The umpiring dept has lost the plot. Why are they chumming up to the players and verbally coaching them when all they're supposed to be doing is refereeing them without fear or favour?

Unless .... could it be .... they have a conflicting instruction that overrides their programming and jams their circuits .... "thou shalt contribute to the entertainment of the game".

The AFL have a mania for creating grey areas and look what they reap. Self inflicted but all the rest of us suffer along too.

Rance should test the boundaries and demonstrate how he grabbed a bloke by the goolies.

Star player + fan favourite = he gets off & the ump gets suspended!

Christian came out with a straight face and said the contact was not intentional and was graded careless. Astounding

Also the case didn’t go the tribunal when the previous ones did.

Make a statement and set a strong precedent about umpire contact by rubbing out the best player in the comp,   or let him walk free as we don't wanna ruin Brownlow night?

I'll let you guess what the AFL chose.

So you can touch the umpires when you’re attempting to demonstrate your point? Got it.

Now we get to see the avalanche of junior players "just demonstrating" thing to the umps. Well played, Christian.

The AFL don't believe in precedent. It kind of cramps one's style, and the TV moguls aren't interested anyway.

Make the rule simple.

Intentional v not intentional

The rules are already simple. The enforcement of their own rules is a task that is beyond the AFL mismanagement.

Have you ever seen the movie Hostage?

Have read two rumours. One is that players were forced into a fake hostage situation, with "terrorists" ambushing their bus and holding players at gunpoint.

Another scneario, revealed by Damian Barrett tonight on FC, involved some kind of nighttime hunter/predator chase through a forest, which left players bewildered and confused.

The whole thing sounds utterly bizarre.

If that’s true, no wonder the players are [censored] off. That’s just screwing with peoples heads. What happened to the days of running up sand dunes with spare tyres above your head. World is getting weirder when it should be getting better

Sounds like they did an escape and evade course and conduct after capture course. Certainly a weird thing to put footy players through.

Ive heard of some pretty full on corporate team building sessions. I had one two months ago with a smaller team. Whilst they are intrusive, it relies on everyone participating and overall I find its good for team building. However, if its not done correctly people will feel singled out and it will erode trust.

Sounds like the latter may have happened here, but more seriously.

Wouldnt surprise me - Adelaides culture seems shocking.

It sounds to me like some players over there have not bonded with trust,,, to the crows group.  And so when trying to bridge that gap in trust, it can go awry.

Maybe EddieB doesn't trust anyone, readily???  and so may not buy-in, so well.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
