When he mentioned speed I assumed Baker.

Baker however spells his name Oskar.

- Cam Pederson looked in ripping touch. Beat TMac at least three times in some one on one drills. Looks a lock for Monday.

Beating one of the best contested marking forwards currently in the league? Now i'm even more confused about which end of the ground Pedo could play in!  Obviously Smith will be in defence, but Pedo might be more than capable of being a CHB by necessity at some point this year.

I wonder when the threads comparing Jetta to Wrecker will start... Will be an interesting conversation.

I only really remember the tail end of Wrecker's career, but Jetta has him covered handily based on my memory at least. Whelan did it for far longer, and actually played finals too (something I think we all hope Jetta will be able to rectify before long).

Interesting. Wrecker was beloved, but I reckon probably never threatened to be All Australian, or even make a squad. Jetta is making serious waves now in the wider AFL world, and in multiple seasons too. He'll be in his prime for anther couple of seasons yet too.

Just had a look at Wreckers wiki page... Just for lols.

2008 & Brendan Fevola incident[edit]

In round-five of the 2008 season, Whelan was reported for striking Carlton's full-forward Brendon Fevola, but who could blame him. He was offered a two-week suspension by the AFL. But an early-guilty plea reduced this to just one week.

I was at that game, and I still can't even believe a smother caused that kind of injury. It was crazy.

Some smothers are basically identical to the sliding in for the ball and hitting a players legs that was outlawed, so it will probably be outlawed at some point as players are told to do it by keeping their feet or do it and avoid hitting a players legs. I'm surprised that we haven't had the conversation over a correct and incorrect smother yet. Will probably be banned if it happened to Cotchin or Dangerfield and they broke a leg nowadays imo.

Unfortunately after being laid out, Hird then pulled himself back together and through sheer force of will played a major part of getting his team over the line against us that day.

That was back in a time when I had respect for him and wished we had a player like him. He had it all....

Getting beaten was pretty standard for us back then. Our only joy was a play here and there.... maybe the odd come-from-behind win against Freo. I still remember those fondly.

I wish he was there in the 2000 grand final to do that it was needed.

So this probably means Garlett won't be playing in the VFL.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
