Gotta say I’m a Clarry fan like most on here. He’s not flashy, never going to win a prize for being the prettiest player the way he goes about it but he wins the hard ball, does all the hard stuff and even stares down mofos in the crowd when they annoy him. Still young but can’t wait to see how he evolves from here.

A nice piece about Clarry http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-12/star-dees-career-going-swimmingly

If we needed reminding how good he is: " Since entering the AFL ...Oliver is ranked seventh in the competition for loose-ball gets, eighth for handballs, ninth for effective handball and 10th for ground-ball gets from 2016-18. ".

And:  "Oliver has gathered 20 contested possessions in a match six times – one more than Patrick Cripps (five) and ahead of Nat Fyfe and Chris Judd (twice) – in that same 42-game period".

He is in good company - would it be too much to think he might win a brownlow in the next few years...

And as a forecast of how good he might become:  "I'm way fitter than what I was last year..." ?

So glad he is a demon and signed up for quite a few more years!

Didn’t even crack 30 disposals.

Needs to go back to the VFL.

Lol... imagine him playing at Casey. He would break the all time clearance record.

Then the 2nd quarter would start...

I can't describe how highly I rate Oliver. We have some very good young players, Petracca, Brayshaw, Hogan etc, but Oliver stands head and shoulders above the lot for me.

A majority of the game of footy is played in tight, and I naturally lean towards inside types more than others. Cripps is just about my favourite non Demon for this reason.

Head and shoulders above everyone. Not just the young blokes.

Still can believe he didn't make the AA squad of 40 last season.

Should have been in the AA team itself, replacing the overrated Zach Merrett.  This season is just proving that even further.

Oliver is also way better than Cripps, who the media loves to drool over.

In other words, Oliver is the best young player in the game.  Its not even close either. Hes a rare talent.

Cool your jets there brother. Way better might be going a little far..

I agree Oliver is a gun, but Cripps is a star in a very average side, he will be made captain next year and be a superstar of the competition.

I hope Mrs Oliver doesn’t mind me mentioning this but I bumped into her and Clarry’s Dad, at a pub across the road from the Gabba before the game.

An absolute bubbly and engaging lady she is. All she wanted today was to see a Dee win :)

In his under 18 year, he switched TAC clubs because his initial coach simply didn’t rate him and said to him “You’re not good enough to play AFL”.

He changed clubs and the rest is history.

Apparently we were heavily considering Parish and Francis but we landed on the great man!

Clarry would’ve been happy to be taken in the 50’s.

Mr Oliver is a diehard Hawks supporter but was wearing the Demon attire today. Perhaps seeing Clarry holding the cup might make him a Dee for life!

  • Shut up about Clarry for F@#k sack please. Yes he's going well. The last thing he needs is people saying he's a good as Chris Judd. He's not. Maybe one day he will be.  It's a team game. Getting a lot of possessions is good, but it's not everything.
  • Where would our win be without Tommy Mac tonight, and others? Where's they're post!

Not sure Mrs Oliver would like her golden haired boy called a beast. He’s more like a magician that makes something out of nothing. Sublime skills in close.

No we're Demons, not fuscias... and, he is a beast.  a midfield ball possessed beast.

@Demonland and I were sitting near the boundary line and Clarry ran past us at one point while he was warming up on the bench.

I yelled out 'Go Clarry' and he looked at me and half smiled.

I'm never washing my eyes ever again.

Maybe you should have half smiled and yelled out " Clarry your carrying the weight of Demonland " !

I love the comparison to Parish right now. How many years did we get them wrong...

BTW,  the bummers have dumped Parish this week. Comparison is kaput.

Yep. And then McCartin vs Tracca as well is looking like a mistake for the Saints.

Parish will work out ok as a player. Clarry though... hoooeeey.

At the start of this year I was talking to one of my clients who is an ex-Melbourne coach and this is the point he was making. He's already good but he hadn't even hit peak fitness yet.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
