If Hawthorn drop out, will the blame the Brisbane loss for them missing out?  If Geelong drop out, will they blame the Bulldogs loss?  If Sydney drop out, will they blame the Gold Coast loss?

Every one of the teams that are in the "at risk" area have lost games they shouldn't have.  Other than the bottom couple, anyone can beat anyone on their day (even one of the bottom ones, Gold Coast, beat a potential finalist last week).  The top sides seem to find a way to win these games, which is why they are a top side.  We're not a top side...yet...

I don't really care what those sides think, our mistakes are the same as they were last year, slow learners. But yes I agree, but we can win it and we won't get a better op than this year, most sides are mediocre bar Tiges.

For some reason I have us finishing outside the 8 on 11 wins. If we dont win this week then we are cactus. Cant see us beating the swans or GWS. I feel that this year is going to hurt a lot more than last year. So hope I am wrong.

For many it won't mean anything as they will spin it so that Adelaide isn't deemed "a scalp".  The fact they aren't in the 8 currently will add ammo to their case.

It's just the type of operators some are.  I'm glad I'm not like them.

Personally while I hang onto just a thread of hope for this year, I think the future looks bright.  All I ask is a competitive team and we seem to have one now.  Placing all one's hopes in terms of a flag is a recipe for disappointment.  After all, crude statistics says a team will win a flag once in every 18 years.  A couple of sigma on that will mean no flag in a lifetime is quite likely. 

Feel free to attribute our lack of success to my attitude. I revel in my unexpected powers.

It doesn't take a genious to work out that if you make finals you have to play teams that are in the eight.

But the Pollyanna's don't care about that. I sometimes envy them because life is all sweetness and light.

Collingwood though... have only beaten one top 8 team. 

I find all this a little bizarre, but I have us beating Adelaide and the Gold Coast and missing out by a game.

I think if we win our prospects are better than 40%.

We'd likely then only need to beat GC and then one of the last three. I'd like to think we can go 1-2 through the final three games.

The frustration for mine will be when we miss, it will be by a small margin yet again, and another year in which we have clearly obvious games we should (not could) have won (Geelong x 2 being the two main ones).

Actually, we can make the finals without improving that record.

Beat Adelaide this week (currently out of the 8), beat GC, and by the time we play Sydney they could be out of the 8 (lose tonight and to Collingwood next week). Beat them too and we get to 13 without any of those wins being against the current top 8.

It's totally possible that we can beat Adelaide, Gold Coast and Sydney in the run home, and end the year in the finals without beating any other team that's playing finals.

That would do some heads in on this site.

I don't think it's damning. We've lost to 3 top sides (geel x 2 and Port) all by very close margins. It could easily have been 3 wins from 4 games against top 8 sides and we'd be sitting second on the ladder. 

I'd say it's frustrating that they aren't where we'd like them to be. Frustrating that they haven't taken the next step in the close games and evolved to be able to get the job done.

The attitude is there just not the right application. They haven't matured to the level they need to, to be taken seriously as a finals contender yet. If they make finals from the position they're in at the moment, they will have earnt the right to be considered a threat. 

The next 5 games will tell us everything about this group. I hope that they make it because I don't know how many more chances players like Jones, Lewis and Vince will have left to give September a shake. Replacing them could be difficult and may take us a step backward.
