Did Mark Stevens seriously tweet this a short time ago?

He’s 100% certain it’s for Gaff. Surely not.

Feds at an airport? Nah.....never.

He’s copping some grief in the comments section. He’s getting called out on it.

Neville Bruns on SEN reckons Gaff should get 12 months off his career, yep 12 months suspension.

I agree.

If you've ever seen the horrible road back from recovery from an incident like this, and how badly it can affect someone both physically AND mentally then you would give this more than a second thought. Personally I'd charge the gutless bastard with assault.

I was at Princes Park the day that dirty mongrel, Leigh Matthews, king hit Stephen Smith. He woke up in the dressing room some minutes later, minus several teeth.

And people speak of Matthews as a super hero.

Hero, my ar.....m pit! He deserved to be charged for assault and suffered the ignominy of being found guilty (before getting off on appeal).

To argue that violence on the field that would see you before the court and facing gaol time if done on the street, is not subject to the laws of the land is astounding. What if a player actually died?

Having said that, I'd still welcome Gaff at MFC if we could get him. Do the crime, do the time. Forgive and forget.

We have our own skeletons in the closet. I still love Rod Grinter, who took fisticuffs to a much higher level, though I don't condone his level of aggression.

How can people want to be the hanging judge on hits in an aggressive physical contact game and at the same time as a nation we condone mentally training our young men to be paid Killers for the armed forces or lately our police forces.?

And then these armed forces folk when they get home are de-arranged ticking time-bombs, in the right circumstances.

We talk about terrorists coming back here as dangerous, yet we train our own of a similar ability.

....  having our cake, and eating it as well.

some people will always find ways to barrack for their own views... no matter what.  without need of question, or a mirror.

Ran off and looked guiltily over his shoulder.

The worst part of what he did. He had just punched his mate, hard in the face and without breaking stride, kept going...

Disgraceful

Don't bother responding again because you'll be on ignore.

Ditto.

I feel sorry for Mark Stevens. People are so unkind.

Gutter journalist with zero ethics. Save your sympathy for those who deserve it.

I agree actually. But I was laughing at the comments on the Instagram he put up of Fed cops waiting for Gaff at Tullamarine.  What a [censored] I thought! Then it was true! He deserves it anyway I guess.

Gaff deserves some leniency.

It is not at all clear that he intended to strike Brayshaw in the head. And, Brayshaw's head naturally lowered at the time Gaff went to strike - Brayshaw's knees bent and he lowered his head slightly.

I think it is plausible at this stage that Gaff's intention was to whack him in the upper body.

I think his good record is a relevant consideration in understanding the offence.

Federal Police escort!!!

Few threats thrown around??

Could get worse after tonight.

Im loving the journos having a dummy spit about Gaff being able to bypass them.

So you didnt get to shove your microphone into his face and ask stupid questions you idiots ?? Guess you will just have to act all offended that he was "whisked away by a police escort" or something like that.

Peanuts.

Is this post sarcasm or genuine?

Have no sympathy for Stevens or most journalists. The quality of journalism, especially in Australia, is utterly rubbish. The stories and things they post do far more harm than what Gaff did. If Gaff deserves 12 weeks, then Stevens should be behind bars. You get more factual information from anonymous posts on internet forums than what the so called journalists serve up these days. They spread absolute rubbish and are not held to account. Pathetic scum.

I'd welcome Gaff to the club with open arms. Hopefully this incident has knocked a few hundred thousand off the contract for us :D

The Irony in all this is listening to Mathhews  join the band wagon of over the top commentary.

He of all people should Shut the F#*K up

Maybe we should just let the existing AFL process play out and comment then when there is actually something to comment on

Herald sun showing multiple pages of the incident is appalling abuse or process and is encouraging mob rule ensuring an in consistent reactionary penalty

When you have airheads on morning TV  making inflamatory comments regarding penalties, without having the enquiry by the ruling body, you know who is running the agenda

How about we just let the established process  commence  and play out

I have the utmost respect for the guy, when Leigh speaks I listen. But I was pretty put out by what he said about this to be frank.

Saying that this will have a longer term effect on Gaff than it will Brayshaw is just plain ignorant in my opinion. You can't be making that comment if you have not been in the victim's position, not to mention when the victim has had his face re-arranged and might never be the same. He could have all sorts of long term mental effects in future that Leigh would have no idea about.

I respect him showing sympathy for Gaff in this tough time but few know what Brayshaw is going through.

Quick! To Simon Goodwin's house!

Is it a little strange he's flown to Melbourne for the hearing when they could've held it in Perth via video conference or with local Tribunal judges? Wonder if he's planning to visit some of the Brayshaw family to apologise in person.

Did anyone hear Mathew Pavlich’s comments about Nisbett? Heard on the radio he had a good old dig at Trev about Gaff and Brayshaw never actually meeting let alone playing ?️

The more times I see the incident, the more I agree. Shouldn't of run off though, panic I suppose.

This comment is the biggest joke. Media would have got their shots and moved on my [censored].

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
