How often does a player of his calibre remain unsigned this late into the season?

Very good chance that hes already committed to us.

Dusty was in Limbo until Rnd 23 last year? Look what happened

Gaff and Murphy... we would be top 4 with 2 players of their ilk in the R & B.

Watch gaff every fortnight here in the west. 2 Years ago I would have said no. Now big YES! Has it all !

Gaff is the type of player we get if West Coast don't match our offer, but not the type of player you trade for when you have nothing. I call him "Seagull" Gaff, as he used to be skirt around the edges of the WACA away from the hard ball. Still, he can actually hit a target, so if he lands at MFC through salary cap space alone he'll be more than welcome.

If Murphy seriously wants to come to MFC he would be very high on my list. The only concern would be injuries, but if I could name a couple of players that would improve our side significantly it would be Josh Kelly or Marc Murphy. We are embarrassingly bad by foot. It is the type of embarrassingly bad by foot that I saw when I used to play under 11's football.

I think Murphy resigned with Carlton a couple of weeks back.

Paging @Satyriconhome

Would love to hear your 'opinion' on Gaff again, I need some comedic relief tonight.

You should try reading some of your posts over the years

Not sure which bit you dont get

If the Club signs Gaff, cool, means they have a different opinion on him to me

I can live with it, only seems you and some of your ilk can't

Gaff had a good game today

Let's hope we have Gaff in the bag and not Hannebery  He's the type of player that will ruin the club.

I think Gaff is exactly what we need. Will be interesting to see how this plays out and if Gaff nominates us what it would take so that West Coast do not match our offer.

I'd imagine a club will not want to hold onto a player who wants to play somewhere else but they will expect decent pick via free agency compensation. Assuming they finish in the top 4 this would mean a pick directly after their first round pick, so a pick in the order of 16 - 19 or later if Tom Lynch heads home to Vic.

I'm also assuming it will cost $1 million per season on a long term, e.g. 4 year deal, to lure Gaff which I would think West Coast could match.

If you were West Coast would you let Gaff go for a late first round pick?

Offer now has to go up $100,000 a season

5 years at $700k

Id say that is less than what West Coast will offer him and about half what North Melbourne would offer. I think it will cost us $1 million a season on a 4 - 5 year deal.

Add hannebery and it will be a tough midfield to break into

Hannebery has been below average this season.

Hannebury is cooked. Would not get a game for us.

Bloody hell. 41 possessions.

13 contested. He's no longer just an outside player.

Still 5-6 years left in his career

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
