Now off to extra time for 30 minutes I have not a lot of interest in soccer but flicked over hoping the victory win just to shove it up sydneyfc just as that own goal by Antonis was scored. The victory were 15 seconds away from a grand final. That is just devastating. anyway we cop the saints next week. Im already dreading it. Its just something about us playing teams that shouldn't win or havent won a game yet that we always come across and somehow we lose to them. anyway lets get over tomorrow first. Quote

Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 Soccer can be fun !! Red card! And another! Sydney FC 2-3 Melbourne Victory This is ridiculous. What is going on. Somewhere in the aftermath of that Antonis goal, Victory assistant coach JP DeMarigny has run onto the pitch and appeared to have thrown a punch at Sydney FC’s David Carney!! We stop for a VAR review; and the assistant coach is shown a red card. We stop again, and Victory’s goalkeeping coach has been sent to the stands as well; replays suggest he too has run on to choke Carney!! Apparently Matt Simon and Mattias Sanchez have also been booked. What is going on. Like actually. And now Zullo’s been booked. For footballing reasons though. 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 7 minutes into added time in extra time and we have a stoppage Muscat going off his head at the delay !! Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 From the Guardian... a beautiful description: Full-time: Sydney FC 2-3 Melbourne Victory And this white whale of a football game, this remarkable, indefinable, indescribably game of soccer is over!! Melbourne Victory have won, Besart smiles again. Muscat sprints onto the field to congratulate his players. And the rain falls on Graham Arnold. Goodness gracious. What is it about A-League semi-finals?? 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted April 28, 2018 Author Posted April 28, 2018 Just to expand... Sydney has been way on top all year Melbourne Victory have had an up and down season. The coach of Sydney takes over the national team after the world cup. He stayed to coach Sydney to the premiership. Melbourne play Newcastle in the final... 1 Quote

If it were up to me we'd be watching it but was in a Hawks supporting household. My heart sank when Antonis scored the OG. I figured that was game set and match. So good to see him seal the winner! We haven't been able to beat Sydney in a few years but this one was glorious! Suffer in your jocks Arnie! And Brosque. Love to see those smug pricks miss out on the GF. So much arrogance in the Sydney camp. Quote

Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Seemed to be a decent crowd at the Hawks v Saints game in Launceston last night. I think it has been mentioned before but what do people think of North relocating to Tasmania on the basis that all away games are played in Tasmania and they play 11 in Melbourne. Sure it gives them an advantage but if North is going to survive it is either going to be on AFL money or with something radical like this. It has the advantage of being a relocation without disenfranchising the existing fans and does not mean you have the draft compromises in the way that it was for GWS and GCS. Quote

If I understand you correctly, wouldn't that mean that all non-Melbourne based teams would be playing their home game against North not at their own home ground ( that is, either in Tas or Melb as part of the 11 in Melb). Wouldn't that be unfair on them? 1 Quote

Wouldn't that be unfair on them? Unfair .. yes but Tasmania needs either a lot of money or an innovative solution to make it work. The Tasmanian games would be split between Launceston and Hobart in all probability so the permanent home ground advantage is reduced slightly. Perhaps the solution is better stated as 11 home games in Tasmania and then say 9 away games in Melbourne where Melbourne based North members have free entry. In reality North games are never sold out so you are not dudding the local Melbourne club. Sharing of gate receipts can be done under a formula. Of course the likes of Eddie and more particularly Jeff K will scream but something needs to happen. Quote
sue 9,277 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I like your out-of-the-square thinking, but I expect the howls coming from WA, QLD etc will drown out even those from Eddie and Jeff K. Quote
Mazer Rackham 14,972 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I don't know much about the economics of it, but it seems that first Hawks, then Roos, "expanded" into Tas and (esp Hawks) were lauded for their innovation and forward thinking. But really, it was always a way of getting more revenue. The money goes out of Tas and into Vic. Wham bam thank you Tas. Surely it is better for the money to stay in Tas and go back to Tas footy. God knows the grass roots is screaming out for it. This comes across as a redistribution of wealth that is crippling Tas footy. Give them their own goddam team as a reward for their long pedigree of football excellence and subsidise it the way GCS and GWS are. Quote

Then you would have the dreaded odd number of teams and I don't think anyone wants to bring back the floating bye. A semi relocated North would still need AFL money but nowhere near as much as a new team. Kennett says you need $50M per year to run a team. Quote

The reason why I want Collingwood to lose go without saying. Whatever makes Eddie sad usually makes me happy. On the other hand, the bloody verbal reacharounds performed on Cotchin, Rance and Dusty by Hammer and the rest of his preppy mates is grating in the extreme. It is nearly as bad as Tim Lane and Geelong back in the day. Quote
