One conspicuous absentee from yesterday's training at Trinity Grammar was Byron Pickett who was applying to the Melbourne Magistrates' Court for the restoration of his driver's licence. The Byronator is a new man with a growing family to look after - and of course, a prmiership to win with the Dees. ( read here).

News from yesterday's training is that most of the old heads are looking fit, trim and enthusiastic, Brent Moloney, Paul Johnson and Ricky Petterd are in full training after recovering from injury while Colin Sylvia, Matty Whelan and Daniel Ward are in the rehab group. Col is apparently still being nursed through the early parts of the the year's training as a precaution against a flare up of the OP that has dogged him from time to time.

Please dont tell me I just read the words 'Sylvia' and 'OP' in the same sentence...

Well if it's just a precaution, that's fine, but the fact that he is still struggling with it after so many years, is a real worry.

If he isn't back into full training very soon, I guess we could wave goodbye to Sylvia being in the 22 come Round 1.

If I remember correctly the club did something similar with him this time last year and he was full of running by the NAB Cup and the early season games.

From my limited knowledge on OP the rehab is a 3 or 4 year ongoing process, designed to ease the sufferer back to full work over that time. I have no knowledge though whether it's flared up again or not.

I just hope Byronator keeps away from the OP - as in Over Proof........ That way he'll keep his drive.

Brent Moloney, ..... in full training after recovering from injury

Am I reading this correctly.

Brent Moloney and full training applied in the same sentence.

What's the story??

I sometimes wonder what's newsworthy about Byron Pickett fronting Court to apply for the restoration of his licence. After all, it's not as if he's done anything in recent history that's improper as far as his driving is concerned. It's a routine administrative application that would have happened a long time ago but for the fact that he lived in another state for a few years.

For that matter, I don't think the story about the Grant Thomas/Rod Buttres debt story is news either. It's a private matter between the two of them and nobody's done anything criminal. They should leave it alone.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
