Agreed.

I like the royal blue and I think it's an improvement on the white jumper we've been wearing in the past.

But according to the article on our website we'll be wearing six out of our 11 away games, with a further two games in the red-back. We only properly "clash" with about two clubs.

Adelaide (mostly navy with some red and yellow) fair enough to wear light blue

Carlton - fair enough

Essendon - black with red - fair enough

Freo - purple which is pretty close to navy blue - fair enough

Port - black - fair enough

Saints - black and red and white. Fair enough.

No problem wearing the light blue v any of these teams. And no, just white shorts doesn't really cut it anymore.

You've gotta be able to tell teams apart at a quick glance at 70/80m away. Thats what the players have to do so i have no problems with distinguishing clash jumpers.

I remember seeing a dees player handball to an essendon player in about 2001 because they just saw the flash of the jumper in traffic.

Im more than happy to wear this kit v these teams. Makes a big difference having this one which is good instead of the horrible ones weve had in the past.

Think I'll get #2 on mine haha

another reason for having so many clash teams is i think the club really thinks this one (and the redback) will be popular (merchandise $s) so they want as much exposure as possible. i can understand that

Love the clash jumper.

It's interesting for me as I started following the Demons in 88 so I haven't really see us play in the royal blue. I have written this elsewhere but I think it's a chance for us to recognize a part of our history that the spin doctors at the club (and a lot of supporters) tend to bury.

If you were to believe the CS's of this world, we all fell asleep listening to Bobby Darin in 1964 but no one of consequence played for us ever again (besides Robbie) and that when we woke up, the league hadn't really changed that much.

I reckon we as a club need to embrace the struggle that we have undergone to get where we have. For me, winning a flag isn't a birth right or an acknowledgement of our inherent greatness. It will be reward for years of toil.

The royal blue for me is emblematic of the struggle.

The redback isn't for sale.

I think I saw on social media that it won't be available, I could be wrong though.

Love the royal blue for clash games. Retro is back in style. Perhaps some 1970s music as we  prepare the games. Dragon? Simon and Garfunkel?

Dire straits would be more appropriate for us

Hell's Bells seems to work well but could always go for some Sabbath or Led Zep

Yes DD..we know you don't care. I have no doubt you'll post to this effect a 100 times more in any number of threads.

Some however do. Those that undestand this appreciate the nuances. They'll appreciate we have always referenced the Red and Blue even should we have gowned up in prissy white or disco silver.

I for one prefer even this rendition. It still screams MELBOURNE. I like that.

Those that dont care,  id actually wonder what elements about anything are sacrosanct ?

Whilst it's about winning its about winning as MELBOURNE and recognisably so. Thats how a culture is built....not as non descripts.

The poll should have an option. ' im ok with it , its better than none red and blue'

Go Dees

WTF - Mate I'm happy every time we win. (full-stop)

You are starting to sound like a previous CEO we had - next you will have the players wearing ridiculous school boy blazers!!

Its a professional sport - but saying all that I appreciate they are people like you who do care. But the days of playing for the "jumper" are gone long ago.

We wore those colours in the mid 80's .

Zantuck, Giles,Healys,Battiston, Wacko etc when we stunk it up big.

Barass throwing tantrums.

Those were the days.

We wore our traditional colours in 2013. Shannon Byrnes, Tom Gillies, David Rodan, Tom Couch; Dean Terlich and Matt Jones finishing top 5 in the Bluey.

Mark Neeld's twitchy eye.

Those were the days.

You would hope it is available in the AFLW version.  I can see alot of young MFC girls prefering that version and would be good for all involved.

Jacko was about the only reason my old man went to games in that era.  Brent Crosswell, Carl Detterich would have been some of the other players of note in that era... Steven Icke towards the end of the royal blue era.

Good choice.  If you foget about Steven Armstrong (which I had), a couple of great players in this jumper in the modern era (asides from Robbie whom I assume you were reffering), just Tingay and Jones have worn the jumper with great distinction.  The jumper No. seems to have had some magic with it that has brought out great players ever since Robbie played in it.

P.S.  I mean no disrespect to Armstrong, he's just not in the same elite company of the afore mentioned.

Armstrong will just sit back and polish his premiership medallion while all this reminiscing is happening...

I was in the 2.7% minority that voted for the white jumper. I quite liked wearing a white jumper as a change up, and I happen to think the royal blue is a shocking colour.

I don't recall too many supporters were complaining about the white jumper when we smashed the lead leaders at Adelaide Oval, or when Tommy Mac broke a 15 year Subiaco drought with a goal with 5 seconds left , or Jake Melksham kicking a scintillating goal in the dying minutes to pull a game out of the fire against Carlton. The whinging on Demonland was also  kept to a minimum when we kicked 13 goals to 6 in the second half against Essendon to score a solid win...in you guessed it....the white jumper.

Whilst last year's white clash jumper was not one of our better ones, what was wrong with this one in 2016?

Nothing wrong with having an opinion - well said. I remember celebrating nearly every one of those wins and the last thing on my mind was the colour of the jumper.

Some people on Demonland are Time rich - have way too much time to whinge about nearly everything related to MFC.

However, maybe thats the sign of the times & social media. People have the opportunity to vent, whinge, whine in anonymity - yet have never been involved with the club and dont understand the real issues.

What is a change up?

I like us wearing a Melbourne jumper, royal or navy blue is fine by me. We are the team of the red & the blue. NOT white.

I think that one is the best of a pretty average lot.  I've always liked our MFC monogram and was annoyed when it was replaced on last seasons jumper.  One of the issues with the white jumper is that the same design has never been consistently used, so supporters haven't had a chance to . build a bond with it.  But we have had some great wins in white jumpers over the last few years!

Reminds me of the 70s too much. We were krap then except for 76. Too many bad memories.

But at the end of the day we are only discussing a clash jumper, we are merely doing what is requested by AFL H/O.

IMHO the best thing about the current Admin is they consistently understand not to bite the AFL's hand that feeds us.

Supporters on the other hand are much more tribal and want to vent their feelings - you will never please all of the supporters all of the time. However, its critical to please the AFL all of the time.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
