What would you pay more money for to help the MFC further stabilize?

What will it do to the weaker?  Make them be more creative when looking for other revenue streams.

Perhaps you can ask your Uncle Cameron what he thinks?

I get the feeling you will enjoy the day that the AFL ban poker machines from AFL clubs, especially ours.

If you are implying that Tigerland is more innovative than Demonland and we can come up with no better than copying the Tigers - interesting call.

I'm sure "uncle Cameron" was a Tiger once so he would be more than happy to see then flourish.

For the record, no I have made my position quite clear on Poker Machines, I have empathy with the Anti-Poker Machine lobby but I could not give a rats clacker if they stay or go. The Anti-Poker machine lobby has support in very high places at the AFL.

In Victoria some AFL clubs are addicted to Poker Machines revenues - time to come up with a few new revenue raising ideas of our own.

Anyway, I'm off to Tigerland and associate with some innovative positive people - watch this space.

it will be strange indeed if the afl ever stop clubs owning pokies (only to be sold to someone else) if they don't at the same time sever all support for and acceptance of money from the (growing) sports gambling industry

for the latter they could actually have some impact but on the former they would just transfer it to some other owner

i don't gamble nor support the gambling industry but i don't see how divesting of poker machines is any more than plain old window dressing

You may never speak words more accurate than those dc.

Many of the Educational Institutions are now running round Melbourne creating reports on how damaging the AFL poker machines are to the community.

They're creating reports on how damaging AFL poker machines are to the community? Or just poker machines in general?

they are trying (maliciously) to somehow just link it (social damage) to afl club owned pokies. ...big fat LOL

number of mentions in press and repeated on radio. media happy to just bait the afl rather than any attempt at rational analysis

AFL poker machines revenues - as I’ve said all along is the ONLY revenue up for discussion

So, many "Educational Institutions" are running around town creating reports on how damaging AFL pokies revenue is and excluding all others? If this is true it is laughable and I'd love to know who is funding these studies.

Pokies are a blight on society but a fool and his money and all that. While they are legal I see nothing wrong with footy clubs profiting from them, better that than Bruce Mathison, Lloyd Williams, Packer, Woolies et al

Well start laughing big boy - you might not see anything “wrong” with poker machines but the educational institutions similar to who you bumped the thread with are out to end their tenure inside Victorian AFL clubs.

DaveyDee most likely saw the article on Sunrise the other day, so has most likely put his/her own spin on this.

If you look back at their posting history, you will see they are frequently misquoting, or presenting something as fact without any proof or evidence.

It was me that bumped it, "big boy".  And one other thing, your continual kicking of this club is tiresome.

Here are the views of Monash University

Again as I said looks clear cut now the pressure is going onto the Victorian AFL clubs - but I said that in the first post in the thread. It’s now when not if

Sounds like a few Victorian clubs have broke ranks and agreed to get out of them.

Collingwood, Tigers, Cats & Bulldogs have agreed in principle to get rid of them.

Hawks, Blues & MFC have been isolated - bye bye poker machines

So would the AFL spend more of its $ Billions on clubs if Pokie revenue was taken away?

if you stop a revenue stream, another one must replace it

I hate Pokies and Gambling, but last time i looked niether were illegal.

If the AFL “stop” Pokies they better open the “War chest” or else legalities will commence.

That study (or the media spin on it) is laughable - so AFL controlled pokies are bad and are linked to family violence but non-AFL controlled pokies are fine and dandy like sour candy . If you buy that I've got a bridge I'd like to sell.

Would love to see who has funded this study and who is pushing the agenda for clubs to get out of owning pokie machines. If the state government wants to ban them I'll support it but to use footy clubs as scapegoats while other morally bankrupt people and organisations continue to profit from them is ridiculous. If the money is to go somewhere then I'd rather it go to the MFC over Crown Casino.

Perhaps some at the AFL are worried that it is such a money spinner that clubs will soon have independence from the Commission and will no longer be able to be brow beaten by the AFL? After all ever since the Commission was created they have tried to weaken the clubs to the point they are wholly reliant on the AFL and will therefore not be able to stand up to them on any grounds for fear of being punished financially either directly or indirectly.

If they take our pokies then we will have to find about 10 mill a year from somewhere else, but it is all much to do about nothing, unless they take pokies out of Victoria, it will not do anything in the community, because instead of us getting the money woolies will get it in stead.

hahaha - media spin??? Monash University Website - is media spin. Now thats "laughable".

Personally, I dont care if they ( poker machines in Vic AFL clubs ) stay or go - however, the pressure is building. But I told you that at the start of the thread.

Now back on topic - Time to find some new revenue streams of our own.

No

The AFL wants to get rid of pokies - The same AFL went to court ( & won ) to protect its Sports Gambling Revenues.

So it really doesnt matter how many times you say it - the AFL wont lose Sport Gambling Revenues.

Geez good luck with that line of thinking - Take the AFL to court, cant wait to see your fixture, your equalisation payment etc, etc, etc

CEO Peter Jackson taking the AFL to court - yeah right now thats "laughable"

Ok, not media spin; inherent bias in the study.

In your opinion but never the less time to get creative and either post or preferably direct contact with club. Might be an interesting topic for podcasting.

Dr. Who you are an employee of the AFL, i have no doubt.

Please refrain from commenting on my posts. I have considered you a fool ever since you stated a few years ago that Carlscums training methods were elite and we should follow suit.

Now please go away..

Sports Gambling Revenues and Pokie Revenues are both evil if you wish to go down that road

but of course you won’t. You work inside the greed itself.

Now be off with you

They have pledge per win. I dunno if that’s the answer. Maybe we need to do the opposite. Maybe cut pays per loss.

The pledge per win is a well used idea - I would be interested to know how much it raises per round. Going back to the supporters time after time for me is not the answer - we need to find ways of getting non-MFC supporters to contribute.

Is it your opinion that pokie machines owned by AFL clubs are more "evil" than any other pokie machines?

If you are logical and agree that this is a ridiculous assertion then it raises a few questions, namely who is behind this "study" and what is their agenda?

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in
