With PA securing Hinkley for 3 more, Jade Rawlings is looking like a chance at GC

After such a long stint at the Dees it is time for a change for both Jade and the Club.

I agree entirely.

Be good for both.

Agree 100%, Wellman did a great job with our backline.

Not like this year where we would often see:

- multiple players go for mark or punch and nobody stays down

- throw ins, no player goalside defending

- no defender who drops into the goal square!

You just listed all my pet hates....!!!!!!

I second that, his time is due.

From the outside, how can you effectively assess the value of an assistant/line coach?? The senior coach is judged on overall results. Development coaches are rated on how well the youngsters come on. Who of us, would really know how well Jade Rawlings is doing? Any time I hear the players speak about Twig at Best and Fairests, etc they all speak of him extremely highly as a mentor.

Gold Coast interested in Brendan McCartney for the top job. Just reported on SEN

Shortlist is looking like

barker

dew

kingsley

McCartney

Read a great article once how very good assistants are often overlooked because they are not at a "Successful" club.  Perfect example the pies last period with Malthosue, everyone though just because they were winning then the assistants must be great.  They weren't as it turned out for everyone who picked up a Ex-Pie.

I imagine recruitment of assistants is a lot more sophisticated than it used too be.  We should focus on the skills we need irrespective on their current club ladder status.

Would have thought Barker and Dew must be close to a top gig

I'd think Macca would be fourth on the list.

I get the feeling Kingsley might get the nod

Ive met Stuart Dew a couple of times and has an amazing appetite for the game and a great motivator. Having said that Im surprised Brett Ratten is not in the running.

I think McCartney alongside a Dew would be best for the Suns, but won't tempt McCartney. McCartney alone would be the best achievable outcome for them, in my opinion.

It was only a matter of time before teams started coming in hard for him though.

This happens when you have good people, but I'd hate to see him go.

This is getting ridiculous.

According to the AFL site, the Saints will have 11 assistant and development coaches in 2018 to assist Richardson.

That is a joke.

They DO need all the help they can get

They will need to build bigger coaching boxes.

We've got 9 currently, and they might be counting the guys who assist at their VFL team? Always been the argument why the football department spending tax came in, to stop those clubs with loads of $$$ from putting in place a massive system. Of course it doesn't always work but the more resources the better you should be?

I would welcome Stevie J in a coaching role. We need some fresh ideas in our forward thrusts.

Some shuffling of assistants. Rawlings is going to coach Casey next season and Plapp moves onto the Melbourne coaching panel.

http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-09-28/rawlings-appointed-casey-demons-coach

Apparently Rawlings' asked to coach Casey if he didn't get the GC job so he can demonstrate an ability to coach his own side. I think it's logical to give a senior assistant a fresh challenge and some space to do his own work.

So I'd say it's a promotion for Plapp but not a demotion for Rawlings.

Will be interesting to see if Plapp takes the defenders or if they shuffle things. Wouldn't be surprised to see Troy Chaplin take the backs. Or Plapp to work in development and Egan take the backs please!

Chaplin has already shown a great ability to set things up for a quick defensive rebound.  If he can do it as effectively for us as he has for the opposition this past year or two he'll be an awesome backline coach.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
