i swear he could be the next big thing for melbourne! he has got a bit of matthew pavlich in him which is great IMO but i like his attitude! doesn't want to get ahead of himself. love to see him in a leadership role one day

In terms of being excited about youngsters in my opinion it goes 1. Mclean, 2.Bate, 3.Jones 4.Bartram, 5.Dunn, 6.Sylvia. 7.Chris Johnson, 8.Newton.

Star. Only McLean excites me more about our future. The great red hope.

nice topic, pitty people like demon magic only see the bright light in brock. its a shame. Bate looks like a confident young man and i think he will go far at MFC the next viney perhaps?

Agreed. Bate has something about him that makes him out of the ordinary. At 190cm plus and with the ability to burst through packs and a good long left foot kick, he's going to cause quite a stir in the years to come.

He too is amongst my most exciting young Demons - along with McLean and Jones in particular.

Pity people have such limited comprehension. Magic was saying only Brock excites him more about our future, in otherwards he rates Bate higher than all our young guns except Brock - and rightly so.

The next Viney?

Did you see much of Viney kiddo? Bate will be a very different style of player than Viney. The major similarity will be that they'll both be considered club greats in the future but there and the colour of their jumper are about where the similarities end. Comparing Bate with Pavlich is a bit unfair on the kid, comparing him to Viney is not just unfair but ridiculous as their styles of play are and always will be very different.

RGRS is correct. I, and I would think we all, have more reason to be excited about Brock than any player currently under 22 on MFC's list. BESIDES him, it's Bate all the way. There's a humber of players who have had fantastic starts, like Dunn, Bartram and Jones, but for what Bate represents, he is potentially the most dangerous to the opposition. His combination of height, kicking distance and skill, fitness, strength, hard work, humility, red hair, courage and wits on the field make him a formidable opponent indeed. But while Brock lacks in some of those credentials, (height, humility and the all important red hair) he has more runs on the board, having played nearly 50 games in 3 seasons compared to Bate playing games in the teens with 2 years as a listed player. Brock has also almost singlehandedly won a final, won numerous matches off his own boot, come in the top 5 of our B&F while suffering injury throughout the year, and pretty much has the entire league at pains to insist how wonderful he is. Bate isn't all that far behind, mind, but he's not covered the yards Brock has yet.

As a consequence, it's Brock, then Bate, then a whole group of guys including Jones, Dunn, Bartram, Bell, Sylvia and CJ that I have enormous confidence in.

Good enough for you BB?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
