Looking ahead ... the Path to September

We should win another 3-4 unless the wheels fall off and the kids all tire out like at the end of last year. Top 4 is a pipe dream. I just want to make finals and then see what happens from there!

A couple of points for pondering :)

Should we account for Port , then cats and pidgeons will go amock  Some media numnuts wont know what to write...

I seriously wonder if the "Dusty" conundrum might start becoming a seriously unsettling distraction at Punt road. I can see their black and yellow wheels falling off .

The Druggies wax and wane. Blues a pest. Suns might surprise at home as Rocket gets urgent. Saints are sinners and the season has called their bluff.

Cat's wouldn't want another injury ( even if we do...for them )

Giants are beatable.

Swans...dark horse.

Fascinating season.

No way we miss finals if we win 13 games, surely that has never happened before, teams have missed in past with 12 wins but no way with 13 if it happened now we would be the in luckiest club in the world

Unfortunately this year I think we are the unluckiest club in the world.

Really think we can beat Port pretenders tomorrow. If that happens surely we can beat Norf and the Aints? GWS looks the only really hard one, but theyre very beatable. We should hit the finals running. The young team running out of steam as posted elsewhere is the great unknown..

A funny old season. As it progresses there are more questions over more teams.

Quite often by now the Eight is all but set, a few teams prepare for last gasp efforts and the rest begin List management !!

Still very much game on for 2/3 the comp

Its pretty wild that there are only 2 wins separating 2nd place from 9th place!!!

Amazing season.

If we win this week we are a fair chance at top 4.

I reckon we can win 5/6

should beat north given they're tanking

giants are very beatable. As are saints

and you'd think we'd roll the lions and pies. No reason we can't win all 6 but realistically i think we will win 4

Love it, mate. Hope you're right. Reckon we'll win 3 minimum and that should be enough to get us into the finals. Could win more.

Love to see who tosses the coin for Richmond in the PA/R'mond final in Adelaide.

absolutely  most even season for ....50 years.     no I can't remember one like this though winning those games in a rush and making the finals in '87 was very special. never forget the roar when geelong v hawthorn finished and we were at footescray.  then celebrated at the Rising Sun.    Go Dees

Thanks for taking the time to do the ladder predictors above everyone but I'm putting a line through any of them that don't  have Richmond coming 9th.

I have them eighth on percentage, could easily be ninth.

Like you i can see them at 8th. In a scenario i have us also at 5th

WE get to put them to the sword .

@wrecker45 thats pretty sweet ;)

Well.. the path looks a little wider after that great win.

Dare we dream of fourth spot?

With Essendon winning,  the other games so far this weekend have not handed us any breathing space but who knows what the remaining games have for us.

Great to be watching from the relative comfort of a good win but as I type our percentage is the lowest of any team in the 8.

Go Dees and keep those predictors coming !!

I'm usually one on the "one week at a time" but I have to say looking ahead we should be playing finals now. We also need to do what a lot of other teams have done, smash Brisbane. That's not being disrespectful to them (and honestly the upsets we've seen this season there are no gimmie games) but by that stage they should be checked out and weary, while we will need the %.

North, Brisbane, and the Pies are all "should wins", Saints is a better than 50/50 as it's possible the they could also be trying to squeeze in, and GWS don't scare me but away from home they are a team to be reckoned with on their day.

Honestly can see wins from all of them (wouldn't that be something!), but I see us finishing with 13 wins as I feel we will drop one somewhere and I'll jot GWS down as a loss to be conservative.

But let's just see what happens.

Need GWS to beat Richmond

Do we?  If The tigers win we will be just 4 points behind both them and GWS.

We have a game vs GWS to come that could get us into the top 4.

If we win 5/5 we probably finish top 4

if we win 4/5 or 3/5 we almost certainly finish top 8

i personally think we are good for wins against north, Collingwood, saints and lions

14 wins and the giants game is very winnable as well.

Richmond are a big chance to drop out of the 8

dogs will come home with a wet sail and make it I think

Agreed, how many times over the past decade have we been on the receiving end of beltings towards the end of the year by sides running towards the finals... About time the roles are reversed

I only say that because I want 1 of 2 things to happen

1. Tigers go full Richmond mode and drop to 9th

2. They win a couple more games and we meet them in an elimination final

but I would take top 4 over both those scenarios

GWS beating the TIgers is the safer option for us, if we assume Top 4 isnt attainable..  and with Sydney coming like a freight train and GWS unlikely to give up their spot it might be a bridge too far.

However theres no doubt GOody and the players have tremendous belief that we can beat anyone, anywhere any time and if with out full team getting close to being available we could end up slipping into the top 4.

Really, the GWS Richmond game might be a win for us either way it goes. A Tigers loss will increase our odds of making the 8, a GWS loss opens up the top 4.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
