Thought Tyson was our worst yesterday. He’s been steadily improving and seemed to have some urgency in his game. But yesterday regressed badly. Almost every turnover could be traced back to him. Not taking the first option, trying to break tackles, putting teammates under pressure, missing targets... I struggle to see him in our side in 12 months time unless he improves.

This sucks because I genuinely like the guy. His first season for us was quality, especially when we were so rubbish.

Bump.

Only a matter of time before Goodwin makes the change.

It's quite frustrating really. It allows for the Tyson defenders to point at the fact that he continues to play, even though in my eyes and the eyes of many others, he is utterly insignificant playing on the wing with his skill-set. However, like Garland in the past and others over the journey, there's only so much a coach can handle when a player isn't offering enough consistently.

Would love someone to tell me how well he played last night?

Had a real pearler of a game didn't he?

Dom is almost a neutral player.

Costs us goals because of getting caught with the ball and turnovers but also has a few goal assists per game.

I fear he will never quite take that next step

To think when we traded him in he was a top 3 player for us and now he is borderline best 22.

He had a stellar year in his first year for us but he played solely as an inside mid under Roos which is his jam.

The way Goodwin uses him now has me bewildered. It'd be like playing Matt Crouch or Tom Mitchell on a wing.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

Dom had a stinker last night. One of the worst games l recall him playing.

Failed to cover the ball deep in the backline and conceded a goal, dropped a mark and kicked poorly leading to a turnover goal, missed targets all night.

I don't know where his training skills go, but under pressure on game day he falls short of the required level of a not quick, not big player.

He really needs to get his mojo back or he may not be on our list in 2019.

AFL footy can demand a high price.

Also consider we essentially gave up Kelly for him ;) Also got Salem though.

He was one of our best last week but he had a shocker yesterday against the Suns. He’ll probably get the chop for Viney after ANB and Harmes fired up.

I think he’s our most consistent player.

It does if you consider that we have three to four blokes that do it better.

He WAS good against St Kilda, but poor last night.

Given Goody played Maynard ahead of him in Round 1, I have no doubt Tyson will be a serious contender to make way for Viney next week. If an AA squad member in Garlett can play at Casey for form issues then so can a guy who is underperforming in the exact role Viney will play.

He plays on a wing now because others have gone past him as inside mids, Oliver, Brayshaw Viney & Trac at times, even Hogan has stints as an inside mid. I agree his natural position is an inside mid but he's been pushed out & unfortunately for Dom he doesn't have to many strings to his bow.

I'd play Jeffy and Tyson in that team. I'd look at someone like Spargo or Baker instead of Vince. We will get exposed on the MCG playing Vince and Lewis every week.

Are we going to forget about Frosty? Is his time done already?? Surely not just a depth player, but its hard to see him slotting back in anytime soon i guess...

I fail to understand the support for Tyson. He is a great ball winner, often in tight situations  - a bit like Harmes yesterday  - but more often than not, unlike Clarrie, he doesn't have the instinct or ability to get through or out of those situations. He also is a regular sinner in the turnover stakes.

Now having said that, I understand how easy it is to sit in an off field armchair and criticize athletes doing their best. I recall speaking to an ex Demon player whose son now plays for us. I said, I'd like a dollar for every time Tyson kicks the ball to the opposition. The ex demon player clearly wasn't impressed with my comment and I understood this to mean, hey, sonny boy, have you ever played the game, do you understand the pressure these guys play under?

Tyson is obviously a very gifted footballer. I wonder if, like Neville Jetta, for example, a switch to a less pressured position would suit him and the team more.

I thought Tyson's first half was ok to good.  His second had moments but fumbled a little at times and made a few poor decisions / skill errors and got caught with slow decisions/reactions on occasions.

If he can find another level of intensity and effort in close and a little bit of burst speed away from the contest / strength through the upper body to shake a few more tackles?  Not sure if that's possible at this point.

Frustrating as he appears to offer so much more than he is giving right now (or maybe he doesn't and this is it!).  Quite an important outside link guy in the team and hits a few targets up field.  On reflection i'm now thinking it's more likely to be Spargo or Weids (both managed / match up / balance options) for Viney this week but who knows.  If Tyson goes we lose a reasonable option / link man on the outside in mid field IMO.

Going to be an interesting week at selection table.

Everybody hates Tyson, it’s the coolest.

If hating Tyson is cool, consider me Myles Davis.

This is my opinion on the hate Tyson receives on here.

Plays a really good game, last week against St Kilda, it was his one or two mistakes he made that count. He had 2-3 shaky moments on the weekend, but all players do. But clearly not as poor player as people depict him as

I hadn’t seen the game before I read this. I was going to say he did some nice things but he actually did things that are expected of an AFL player. He made about four mistakes which are Tyson like and what cause all the angst on this site. His output was also well down. I can accept Tyson and some of his less skilled  moments if he is getting close to 30 touches a week but not when he gets 16.

I think more the question is - if Viney was to come back next week who goes. If you believe what was said about the awesome Foursome then the Weid will stay. I would suggest that would leave only Tyson for Viney.

His body language looks as though he is really struggling. He looks stressed and bereft of confidence which is reflected in his game. I rate him but maybe some time at Casey wouldn’t hurt.

I agree about his body language. I feel sorry for him...

Tyson has ability IMO. He is just currently poor in the contest due to his slow decision making and kicking technique. The coaching staff have seen this and put him on the wing. Unfortunately for Dom this position doesn't suit him as he is slow and doesn't read the outside game and his kicking isn't elite. Dom still has potential but needs to strengthen his core to withstand the tackle and needs to give the first option. His height is his biggest asset meaning his best position is as an inside mid not a winger.

Really? If all players are fit, who do you remove from the inside mid rotation for him, and how do you cover for his defensive shortcomings?

Sam Mitchell got away with it because of how good he was offensively. Dom Tyson isn't that good.

You got to lose something to get something, Dom is good depth you need a best 28 to be a good side, and Salem is very good player, Dom did not play that badly, there are a least 60 to 100 tackles a game, but they way some make out Dom must have been tackled 50 times at the gabba, is he the only one who gets caught with the ball. I think many don't watch him play, they just read someone say he is no good and just repeat it.

I think you’re misunderstanding my general view.

His sole position should be inside mid, but I wouldn’t have him ahead of any of our current players rolling through there. Right now I’d have him playing inside mid at Casey for depth.

My confusion and frustration comes from the stubbornness that Goodwin displays by playing him in the senior team on a wing. A position in which you need to play runners/ball users. Not extractor/ball winners who are slow and turn the ball over.

Handy depth, but he's barely going to get a chance to play in his preferred role, if Viney has been out all season, yet Dom hasn't been given a go in the middle.

Maybe time to cash in our chips on this one. I don't care what he cost us, or missed opportunities - it's about the best net result for the club from here onwards.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
