AFL Round 5 - Non MFC Games 2017

I hope Collingwood win, cause I want Buckley to keep coaching them.

I've got to say, Collingwood is as soft as butter. Very few beeline the contest.

An amazing 2nd half by Daniher.

Didn't see the first but wow. His decision making and long kicking to one on ones has been the difference IMO.

Who goes with him next week? Frosty seems like the choice but if he has to share ruck duties?

King a "no choice" 'IN' to allow for this?????

Essendon make me sick.  I can not handle losing to them yet again.

Less than 5 days til the agony or ecstasy.

how did we get to play the Bombers next week at Docklands when both teams nominally have the MCG as their base?

In theory they share between Docklands and the MCG but the only Victorian teams they play at Docklands is us and North.

All other Essendon home games against Victorian teams are at the MCG

And I thought the Tiger supporters were feral. These Essendon supporters are down right scary. So much aggression.

Wait till Hibberd and Melksham run out in Demon colors next week.

Blackest day in Australian sport

They will always be remembered as drug cheats. That is their legacy. The most infamous event in AFL history.  No one can take that away from them.

Frost would be ideal. But no one will go with him. Daniher will just stand 20 metres off the pack whilst all our defenders go up for the spoil, which evenif they connect won't go 2 metres, handball out to dropped pie face for the easy goal. Rinse and repeat.

It's more like a half-sucked mango for mine but I see what you mean.

Is Frosty an option PF? That's a "look away" potential disaster as you say.

This is a worrying trend that's pervaded our backmen and also happens up the field a little too often Deestroy. Fix it or continue to fail down back (too many up i mean...allowing the loose man to impact from the spill). Hunt one of the worst offenders atm.

Love to see Frost ragdoll him like he did to Riewoldt last night...

I think it's the team instruction more than anything. If you can impact the contest you go. The problem is they aren't impacting properly, i.e. getting the ball out of the area. Without clearing the area there'll obviously be an unmarked player.

That was very impressive WWS. Frost has really gained in strength and his attack on ball carrier the last few seasons. Becoming a pretty powerful athlete. Like his run too.

Surely Buckley's cooked. Got to be questions over Eddie too, their 2011 list could have continued to contend if it was kept together with Malthouse at the helm. Instead they retired players they didn't need to, got rid of others who tore it up elsewhere (Heath Shaw particularly), and dismantled the coaching panel. Probably cost them a flag with those calls. It's not a question of resources either because Buckleys wanted for nothing when it came to facilities and building his list.

More broadly the past couple of seasons I get a sense that there's a 'baton-passing' of sorts going on between them and us - prior to 2015 the only players we could prise out of them in trades were overpriced potatoes like Dawes, since then they've taken our discards/underperformed like Dunn and Howe (their BOG today) , all the while we pass them on the ladder and now have a three game streak on them. Notwithstanding frustrations at the past month we are well ahead of them and right now their list is in a bad state if Howe is their best defender and Moore their best forward.

Some Gold from the pies forum

Weekly schedule:

Tuesday: Rant online about pathetic performance, Buckley out, hate players
Wednesday: Listen to SEN expert say what we need to do to improve, agree and look for positives in the side.
Thursday: See changes, be happy with changes, be optimistic about upcoming game.
Friday: Look at opposition team and potential match-ups, look for match-ups we will win and decide we might get up.
Saturday: Get reports from most recent training session, listen to Fox Footy experts talk us up, decide we'll definitely win.
Sunday: Watch [censored] football and another terrible loss.

Repeat.

:)

Makes me feel better ....

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
