I don't think I've ever uttered the phrase "thank god for Jake Spencer" but kept a close eye on him during the JLT and he has learnt a lot from Max. He was consistently winning hit-outs to advantage and at times looked superior to the All-Australian with his tap work. Max is obviously a leader, more mobile, and better around the ground, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jakey announces himself on the big stage and really takes it up to Sandilands. It will be a much more even contest at stoppages than many outside 'experts' are predicting.

It'll take more than just tap work this week

Seen nothing to excite in all these years

not surprising, your avatar looks like she's wearing a blindfold.  Take it off and you'll find there is a bit of excitement about.

Spencer was great in the JLT, was getting taps taking grabs kicking goals, he will be great and take his chance at being number 1, anyone comparing him to gawn is just silly as they are very different,  I am excited to see what he brings

Frost, Bugg, Spencer in for Oscar, Smith and Gawn... Interesting.

Have to confess to being surprised by the Frost inclusion. Not because he's not up to it, I'm a fan, even though he has a long way to go. But he's coming off a long injury lay-off, and has only had, what, ½ and 3/4 of two practise matches at Casey.

Still, presumably the selectors think he's ready.

Smith a bit stiff, given that he wasn't the only forward who under-performed but so be it. With Hogan due back next week, Hannan and Weideman would need to do a bit better this match than last.

Shows what the coaches think of Oscar so far this year if they're replacing him with Frost who has barely played VFL yet due to injury. Not sure it's a good move to rush players in so quickly if they aren't 100% fit or close to, but I like what Frost brings to the backline. He is so quick for a big guy and if he doesn't try anything to fancy he gives us good drive out of the backline too.

Good to see Bugg rewarded for great VFL form. Surprised Weid didn't get dropped as he is struggling so far this year. Smith is a bit unlucky to be dropped after one game but that's footy for you! Hogan back next week!

Weideman is very very very lucky....

We drop Weeds and we go in VERY short. He brings the ball down and is at every contest. No Brainer.

No we do not go in 'very short' because the obvious selection would have been Pedersen.

@stevethemanjordan just had his Christmas and birthday all at once with the omission of Oscar.

The changes are fair, though, and reflect a need (Spencer) and good VFL form (Frost and Bugg).  The guys at Casey need to see that their good work is rewarded and the guys in the senior side also need to see that poor form won't be tolerated.

Still nervous about this game, though.  It could be a slog fest.

So we bring in Frost AND Pederson, two without game fitness for the year. Clearly it was between Oscar and Weeds. We've proven we can score with an underperformed Weeds.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
