Can we trade;

2018 first round & 27 to Richmond for Picks 15 & 16.

This allows Richmond to use Pick 27 on Naish (father son). I think this works well for Richmond. Not sure on father son draft rules. Correct me if I am wrong!

We pass 15 & 16 onto scum bag Crows!

We keep Pick 10 & gain Lever...

* I would rather give 2018 first rounder to Richmond than Adelaide.

Why would Richmond do that?

So we get 15 and 16 and Tigers get 27 and potentially 18. Why would the Tigers do this?

Tigers gain 2018 1st round pick in a stronger draft. Tiges use 27 on father son (they would have to use 15 or 16 on him anyway).

I think the Tigers will have a strong hand with two 2018 first round picks and will be an advantage to them in a strong draft in a number of ways;

- They could up trade two first round picks to gain a higher pick.

- They could trade for a gun player and still have a first rounder available to draft with. Etc etc.

* I think the father son draft rules have changed anyway and it wont work for Richmond in the end. Or the Dees... haha

The deal mooted on the AFL site would be fine by me - our first rounder this year and next for Lever and a late first round, very early second round pick.  I think that's pretty fair to be honest.

Agree.

Especially given that Lever would go top 5 easily if we were to revise the 2014 draft. Something that posters quite clearly forget.

Not only that, but if we trade Watts for Pick 29 then we go to this draft with Lever and three picks in the second round that we can potentially trade for another player or package together to get back into the first round.  Not bad, really.

Unless Crows want to give us their 1st round (pick 16), then they'll need to bring in another pick somehow (possibly Lions pick 18 or 19 for Charlie Cameron)

Yep good deal all round, but will still be people who only see the 2 1st round picks and say it’s too much just need to look at the bigger picture, and we are no longer rebuilding we don’t need many picks to take to the draft we need to fill holes for the now

We are trading;

OUT - Pick 10, 27 & 2018 first rounder.

IN - Lever & 19

Wiseblood. There is only 2 second round picks if we get 29 for Watts.

19 & 29.

I think we can do better...

But the bigger hole in the list is that we have no midfield class, pace or depth. Tom McDonald has to play forward to accommodate Lever. Tall defenders are hardly a gap in the list. They're there. I don't see any midfielders that can break away from a stoppage, evade, bounce and hit Hogan lace out.

The midfield lacks pace and kicking skill. Lewis, Vince and Jones are approaching the end. Bradshaw is no certainty. It is absurd to trade 2 first round picks when we lack skill and pace through the middle AND the player has nominated us.

Says who?  Lots of suggestions of what we will do at the minute.

If we do the trade suggested on the AFL site, we keep our second rounder, get a second rounder back from Adelaide (or late first) AND we keep the pick we get for Watts.

It's not hard to work out.

We lose our second round Pick 27 aswell as 2 First Round Picks.

You you need to read the AFL site again...

I think you'll find, big mouth, that you need to read it again:

"There is hope the deal can be ticked off in the next two or three days, with the Demons sending two first-round picks to the Crows (pick No.10 this year and next year's first-round selection)

The mooted deal would see Adelaide send a late first-round or early second-round pick back to the Demons."

I await your apology.

Instead of the Charlie Cameron pick we need to be asking Adelaide for their 2018 first round pick. They probably won't make top 4, and in fact could drop out of the top 6. It would be good if a club didn't bend us over at the trade table for once.

GWS are not accepting 40 for Nathan Wilson but are asking Freo to give them 15-20. I wonder if the pick 18/2018 1st we get back from Adelaide can be used in conjuction with the pick to get Balic so we can get a Fremantle player like Lachie Neale/Weller or another. Not too familiar with their list though and doubt they would have much.

As they should.  Good player and worth around the Tuohy pick from Geelong.

Gary buckenara does a pretty interesting analysis here:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/gary-buckenara-analyses-melbournes-list-after-the-2017-season/news-story/08afd8b49dedaf6938358873ff2d5b28

NB: if you care not a subscriber google this and go to the article direct (note their new website won't allow you to cut and paste the text from the summary to google, so you have to mnaully type it): Demons should rethink Watts trade

Says this about Lever:

'The Demons are Jake Lever’s preferred new home after he requested a trade out of Adelaide and he’d be a nice addition to the backline as that intercept-marking player, which is so critical in the modern game. He is a third defender, not really a key-position player despite being 195cm.

The Crows are asking for two first-round picks in a trade and to me, that’s overs. Melbourne currently has pick No. 10 so I’d offer that and potentially a second-round pick or a young borderline best-22 player such as Alex Neale-Bullen, who is an Adelaide boy, to sweeten the deal.'

This comment from the comments section below the article made me laugh:

Lever is exactly what Melbourne need. Another easily physically intimidated player who fails to stand up in big games.

This trade works for all clubs...

Richmond receive;

Pick 10 (1395) & Pick 22 (845) = +61 points

Gold Coast receive;

Pick 27 (703) & 2018 2nd Round Pick 30 (629) = +4 to +156

Melbourne receive;

Jake Lever, Pick 37 or Aaron Hall (Lets take Aaron Hall here...)

And guess what! We keep our 2018 First round pick. Amazing!

Adelaide receive;

Picks 15 & 16 (2 Flop First Rounders as asked for & delivered)

* Pick 30 has the Dees finishing 4th on the ladder. I think this is overs. As my ladder prediction is more likely 5-10 2018 season.

# I have added points from draft picks traded. Richmond and Gold Coast both gain points. Gold Coast have an abundance of 2nd round picks so gaining a 2nd rounder in 2018 is quite beneficial especially in a stronger draft.

If anybody could forward this to Mr Viney & Mr Taylor that would be much appreciated.

Play hard Dees!

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
