Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

Lever won't have that much effect if our mids are being towelled up because we haven't landed another mid to relieve the pressure from a 22 game season on our younger mids and near-retirees coming through. Keep another first and use it to bring a non-vfl player into the middle.

Agreed. Gaff or Rockliff should be the other targets. Or at least players of their ilk.

From the article:

"ADELAIDE ... want two first-round draft picks ...if he seeks a trade back to Victoria".

"Some observers, however — and it is safe to say Melbourne will agree — argue that Lever isn’t worth two first-round choices".

"Another option ...would be to give up two first round picks and receive a decent pick back, or to give up a first rounder and then swap picks".

That is pretty much as @Judd's Granny describes.

The article also says that Coll has dropped out of the race. :)

If a trade doesn't involve a third club there is a fair chance it will be done early in the trade period which starts on October 9 (if he decides to come to us).

I'm starting to get my hopes up!

All I can say is click on this article and look at the time it went live, then look at the time I posted my info.

No sorry, not having a go at you. Just using your post of the article to highlight the fact that I had the scoop 1st. Other Demonlanders have some doubt about me.

Don't post for the accolades JG, if you've got info safe to post, go bananas but you'll need to have a thick skin. They'll come for you if it doesn't come to fruition.

Demons working on multi deals. Won't consider 1st + 2nd rounders for Lever.

When you say multi deals, do you mean the MFC working to trade with other clubs to solely acquire Lever or are we targeting other players also?

Plenty of thick skin here mate. Not after accolades, just validation that my info can be trusted. I receive info everyday but only post once it's confirmed by my most trusted sources

And rightly so.  If you put it out there and it's not true then your credibility is zero.

Now if the pies have dropped out ... which other clubs are we competing with ?

Would it be so implausible to suggest that North will enter the race at the last minute and offer a massive deal because nobody has come to them? And they want to troll us one more time?

2 other players on radar

When you say radar, how far along do you mean? Or is it an apt metaphor and we're only just 'watching' what the players are currently doing?

There are 3 players from other clubs we want, for 2 of them their names are being painted on their lockers as we speak.

Crows want 2017 + 2018 1st round picks

Demons won't do deal

Ok, so I assume that is our starting point, and that is their starting point.

Our firm position is that we will not give away two first round selections - and their desire is two first round selections.

If Adelaide want to back themselves in, I think we could do (and I seen this on big footy - but thought it was a good deal for both parties)

Melbourne IN: Lever and Adelaide 2018 first round pick.

Melbourne OUT: 2017 first and second round pick, and 2018 first round pick.

Adelaide IN: Melbourne 2017 first and second round pick, and 2018 first round pick.

Adelaide OUT: Lever and 2018 first round pick.

What are your thoughts on that?

Who are they..?

If we can talk so openly about Lever, why not them..?

Are we likely to need to trade out some of our better players for picks to allow us to trade for these 3 targets, or is/are some of them FA's that wont need to be traded for?

Jesus Ding.

Judds Granny follows a very well worn path of a new poster popping up at seasons end, and giving juicy tidbits that people love to swallow, and being exposed and disappearing 2 months later, never to be seen again.

Like the posts for their entertainment value, imagine "wouldn't it be great if it were actually true", but don't ask questions and give the impression that you believe what he is saying.

Its fun, but nothing more.

edit: and watch for the trade rumours to get even more enticing, and complicated at key "bars open" times, friday night, and weekends.

Sounds like negotiation 101.

Each side starts from a position favourable to what they believe is ultimately fair, and then start the dance.

Getting a deal over the line can often be more about each side feeling they have had a win during the negotiation, not what outside parties think is fair.

If this info is true, I would expect the ultimate outcome to be Lever and Adelaide's 2017 2nd round (35 or so) or 2018 2nd round pick for perhaps Melbourne's 2018 1st round and 2017 2nd round (25?).

Lots of this will depend on how both Adelaide and Melbourne rate the depth of this year's and next year's drafts as later 2nd round picks are often where the talent drops off. Plus how each team thinks Melbourne and Adelaide will perform in 2018 and therefore where future picks are likely to land. These factors would dictate if the clubs prefer 2017 or 2018 picks.

I believe Melbourne have already shown their trade and draft philosophy. 1st round is for potential elites but they will still use them in a trade for genuine quality, 2nd round picks are better spent on known solid quantities that fill a need as illustrated by the Melksham, Hibberd and Vince deals, and then back yourself to find and develop a gem or two with the later picks so it almost don't matter if that's pick 42, 54 or 60 as you'll likely still get one of the players you wanted.

So I do not expect Melbourne to take 2nd rounders into the draft unless they can't find a trade for a known quantity that fills a need, like an Isaac Smith type. So if they have to burn a 2nd round to get Lever along with a first round I think they will do it as Lever is such a "need" guy. But if so they will look to trade a player out (maybe Kent if lucky because another team like his pace, or I have a gut feel Watts may have his papers stamped by Goodwin and he would definitely get a 2nd round) to get another 2nd round in, and then use that 2nd round to trade for a known quantity need.

It's a bit complicated!

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
