JLT Round 4, Thursday 9th March - West Coast at Subiaco

Tyson is having a mare, no doubt about it.  Still had 19 possies though and he'll be better for the run.  He is a certainty for Round 1.

Are you actually going to say something substantive or is that it?

Fantastic learning curve, the weagles defensive press is brilliant.

Just lacking a bit of pace and need to tidy the skills.

Our pressure and endeavour are top notch.

Sounds like a minor tweak Cards. Problem is we have been suffering from these deficiencies for decades now in a major way. 1994 maybe the last time we looked like a reasonably competitive team in this area although my memory is somewhat hazey through the fog of so many horror years

Club believed their own hype and got sucked in by the media. Hopefully this brings them back to earth.

Has anyone else noticed that heaps of frees against WC get a replay and none of our seem to? That one against Max was a joke, he was trying to get anywhere near the ball while Petrie didn't care where it was and sheparded max away.

West Coast just the better team, really showing up our deficiencies, we are very panicky under pressure

Absolutely nothing has changed with this team. Still can't kick and until we can we will be nothing. I notice we have even dragged lewis' kicking down and he is missing them now.

Why isn't Trengove playing

Because we probably cant afford to put an even slower team on the park?

We Melbournize everyone.

You have obviously watched none of our games.

Tall forward dominance by the opposition is de ja vu

Oliver seems to have a tag on him, good learning for him. Viney and Jones are very quiet. Garland doing OK, Trengove unsighted, Watts and Tyson rusty, skills poor.

Funny I don't think we are playing well at all but we are still kind of in it.

Salem doing some good things, deserved goal.

Tough quarter for us.  I thought we actually controlled large parts of it, but once again the turnovers let us down and we allowed them to kick some very easy goals.

The same players who were up and about at half time continued on in the third.  If we could clean up our disposal going forward then we could have hit the scoreboard more.

Make no mistake - the Eagles are a highly talented, well drilled outfit who know their own deck like the back of their hand.  This result is not necessarily unexpected.

still a Q to go...

we've got this.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
