I was at training today, will post pics later, 2 things Hogan has modified action slighty, did 15 minutes of goalkicking from all possies including 50   missed  maybe 2 and not too badly from my count. Salem starting to be involved with clearance and stoppage work as a mid

Thanks mods inherently lazy

Me "Jordan, nice kicking today, do you ever miss a kick?"

Jordan "Nah"

Man crush today some of his kicking is sublime

Viney VDB JKH and Trengove started to join in drills

Spoke to Goody and Macca they are both stressing the physical aspects of the game, you hit and tackle hard

How did JT and VDB look in the drills?

They were fine ,  craft day today, so lots of small groups all over the field, hard to keep track of

The non preferred kicking is getting a lot of work

No  was he supposed to?

There were players all over the place, didn't see Garlett or McKenna for starters, Hibberd and Melksham didn't do much

How's the penetration on his kicking looking; seems to have struggled from on 50m so far in his career.

It was fine, it was an interesting group Hogan, Weidemann, Smith, Hulett, Watts and Brayshaw

They were taking kicks from 30, 40 and 50 out from all the angles

The little hop skip and jump in the middle of the runup is not as pronounced, watched him for about 10 minutes, action was smooth

Loved watching Stafford and Gawn, Stafford got Gawny off balance in one duel with a beautifully timed hip bump and followed him down to the ground hitting him with bag all the way, Gawn waited for a few repeats and then launched at him, got the first pic, but he hit him that hard he knocked him out of my frame and I didn't get the bit of Stafford crashing to the ground, there was a couple of mutual headlocks as well

I like to hear Stafford is teaching Maxy about handling the additional attention he's bound to get next year.

We're going to be a hard team to beat when Max is on fire.

S - I understand that he is still (1) a contracted player, (2) medically cleared to play and (3) says he is keen to extend his contract so I would say YES.

Obviously at least one of those points must be incorrect - I suspect (3)

Maybe he is meditating?

I agree with all the above, sorry I thought it had been announced he was going to be there, concentrate on photos at training, don't look at phone

Haven't broached the subject with anyone, would only get straight bat

There is also a strong emphasis on agility work as well, Misso worked over Weeds, Gawn and Spencer for about 15 minutes, had them doing some strange drills that I hadn't seen before, but all about getting a big frame on the move from certain positions

One of the other drills is where the player has a coach/trainer facing him and he has to skip/run whichever way they point, another coach has a bag and when they whistle has to hit the bag, always behind the player, so player has to quickly turn and get hip into bag

They are putting not only a heap of work into Maxy but also Spencer, to ensure we have the cover, both look in top condition, when they were to doing stoppage work the two of them came together with an almighty crash, both just got up and carried on. King is also getting a bit more ruck work into him as well

Thanks DS, have to do it on my phone, that is what defeats me, just ask my daughter, I get emojis holding their heads in hands:o

The other player who looks like he is ready to take it to another level is Billy Stretch

Spoke to Jonesy as well today, really content as to where the team is at at the moment, looking forward to taking the field again with some of the young talent we have, loving the physicality Goodwin and Macca are instilling

The way his upper body is shaped in preparation for the grab is a replica of Shaun's.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
