I think the only other AFL player I ever saw perform that magician-esque type of trickery was Jared Brennan early in his career.

Which scares me to death.

Because he was awful.

Someone should create a thread for just Dee's GIFs, I'm always searching for them on here to send mates when they are paying out the Dees..

That is one of best pieces of play I have ever seen a first year player perform. Just brilliant. I think it led to a goal from half back as well.

Have I mentioned I love this kid, he is my favourite Demon and I look forward to seeing him play for us, for the next dozen or so years.

And he picks it up with his left hand, extraordinary...

I think I recall Dermie commenting on this bit of play and saying that he had never seen anything like it,  from a young player.

Anyone got footage of the mark he took on the wing against the Hawks earlier in the year - I think it was over Hodge or Mitchell. Just out-bodied the much more experienced player and looked like a 200 gamer.

Redheads very rarely make me hard but this lad is the exception to the rule!

Huge upside for next year and beyond...

His finals form in the VFL was fantastic and if he hits Round 1 fit then the league better look out!

Brownlow smokey for mine if we win enough games...

No pressure Clarry!

I think you mean this mark, unless he took a similar one against the Hawks.   Callan Ward is renowned as one of the hardest players in the game and Clarry, on debut, made him look second rate.

TBH I was surprised when we took Oliver at 4 But can now see why Taylor rated him so highly, I like the rest of you on here believe that Clayton could be anything. Truly natural footballer with all the arrows in the quiver. Go Choo Choo!!!!

As good as Parish looked this year, and as good as he might be - I think we pulled the right reign on Oliver. Obviously it only early days, but he does look as though he is one out of the box. He has that Dangerfield, Fyfe and Cripps power through the core. Also the uncanny ability to stand up and extract the ball when the heat is on (also like Kennedy, Fyfe and Cripps). Parish will never have those attributes. As good as Parish might end up being, I cannot see him being on the level of Oliver.

Mentioned in the first line of the summary.

You did indeed! (But still worth repeating!)

Best hands at MFC since Obst. Best vision, awareness and selection of disposal choices in close that I have ever seen at MFC. Most successful teams have high class distributors (think Sam Mitchell, Greg Williams, Michael Voss) whose touches propel their teams forward. If handled properly, Clarry will rightfully belong in this company.

The FD's challenge will be to develop the receivers to complement his role and his skills.

Probably the exact moment Jordan Lewis realised he wanted to play for us.

The physicality of Oliver as an 18 year old is ridiculous and the kid can seriously play.

I'd be a fan of a player like this whatever team he landed at. Great thing it's the MFC.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
