True.  He actually got BOG from the coaches voting in the 'Gary Ayers Medal' for the GF game.

Boyd was pivotal to the win.

I'll reserve judgment as to whether he'll ever be more than a 30 goal key forward.  His current best is 16.  He's kicked 37 from 38 games.

His career trajectory is not too dissimilar to Tom Hawkins, who at 38 games had kicked 49 goals. Hawkins best is 68 and he regularly is in the 40-50 range.  That's probably about where Boyd is going.

 A 30 (ceiling) goal forward would put him in the Chris Dawes region; I'd project that Boyd is going to be a lot better than that.

And it's not just about goal numbers. He was very good in the ruck, so he is much more versatile than Dawes or Hawkins in that respect.

I was a massive critic of his, but boy did he prove me wrong. As already said, if he never plays again, he would still be worth that insane contract!

I reckon being very good in the ruck is just a nice to have.  Not a relevant KPI for Boyd/Hogan/Hawkins IMO.  

Marks is probably the numbers that really matter as goals can be a function of role being played - this is where Dawes really lets us down.  The reason Boyd was so effective was because he marked it every time he got near it, which I hadn't seen him do until that point.  He only averages a whisker over 3 a game; his 8 in the GF was a career high.  For comparison, Hawkins now averages 5.4 and Hogan 6.9.  An 8 mark game wouldn't even be in Hogan's top 10 statistically.

I still think there's room for circumspection regarding Boyd.  He has now played a total of one game that does justice to his talent.  Nobody has been proven wrong or right on anything yet IMO.

It was a ripping GF, though.  He sure picked the right match to play the game of his life.

I'm probably selling him a little short, but I don't overly rate him as a forward.   I think Hawkins is the superior player from a physicality and contested marking point of view.   Boyd does best when he can run and jump, which he was able to do in the ruck, but contested marking in the forward line is far more difficult, as Tom already knows. 

Also, the game has changed and a Hawkins type is finding the present game much harder.

But yes, things can turn full circle and return to someone like Hawkin's strengths.  As outlined, just because they share similar physical traits I see them as quite different players, although I understand the comparison. 

I acknowledge Boyd has a heap of time to address his deficiencies.

Cracking Granny.  I'm reading all the post game newspapers and loving the beveridge story.  Hard not to like him and this Bulldogs story.  But what I have found interesting in comments by players and beveridge in particular is their lack of 'Leading Teams' speak/terminology/drivel.  By this I mean something along the lines of..

'well, certainly, absolutely we want to embed a culture in this club that is internally driven from a players perspective, that recognises that without good culture and leaders leading and driving and setting standards both internally and externally then the results won't come. But thats really valued by the whole playing group and just by setting those standards we are able to  acknowledge that there will be external influences and opinions, but if the leaders can provide the necessary leadership and demonstrate those associated qualities and habits then we should be able to develop people from a professional and personal point of view, and moving forward, this is what we as a club strive for...'  and so on and so on and yada yada yada.  

None of the above sort of manual-speak comes out beveridges mouth.  It comes out of Buckley's mouth now involuntarily, automatically, default setted.    For want of a better phrase, he just talks shi*!  So boring.  Poor bloke.  Death by a thousand cuts old Bucks I reckon.  The scott boys too.  Yawn.   

Now I know many fellow deelanders are going to rip into me because yes, we Demon's employ Leading Teams and yes Roosy (he manages however to talk such nonsense at times that it is impossible to really know what the hell he just said, so its not as boring as it is bemusingly bewildering) is a big disciple of them, and it has done wonders for us.  Fair enough but we were rock bottom.  We needed our hands held.  

I've gone a long way around to ask this question but what I was hoping to ask any fellow deelanders was if anyone knew if The Western Bulldogs employed a company such as Leading Teams or the like?  Im guessing no.
