So you have nothing to do Steve?

Sorry OD...

Retirees.?

It's lunch time here in Perf.

A quick glance at the list of free agents this year shows that it was always going to be a boring FA period; there simply little viable talent available.

In regards to the trade period, we had our fun last year.  Sacrificing our first pick and already lining up Hibberd means we simply have no currnency.  The only way to generate this currency is by sacrificing some good young players, which I don't want to do just for the sake of it.

We should be happy that our list isn't being pillaged again by the big clubs.

Glad to see you were not slacking off like some others.

Steve, you forgot retired and independently wealthy.

Neither of which apply to me, self employed and often bored.

I'm sure there's many other categories Mandee.

Has to be the most boring period on the footy calendar.  Cut it down to 1 week and watch 'em scramble to get it done then.

Thank you for your hard and diligent work Steve.

I always appreciate people who put in such effort.

Bludger here.

I am quite happy for us that it is boring.

We moved out our number one pick for this year to get two picks last year and that looks like it might bear fruit.

We look to be bringing in a player that is probably around the 2nd round mark.

We have signed all the players we wanted signed and i cant see any on any of them going onto the trade table as they have so much upside.

We have no players of real value who want to look for opportunities elsewhere. I would be surprised if we pull out any sort of surprise (other than a possible free agent) as we have no draft picks to play with and we have no players to give up.

I am delighted to be bored senseless by the trade period as it is a reflection of where the club is at.

I have to confess that I'm overcome with boredom over the 2016 trade period.

It's not just that Melbourne seems to be predominantly sidelined because of a lack of currency to trade with but also because most of the mooted trade deals give the appearance of having been set up a fair way back in time.

Did anyone doubt that Jaeger O'Meara would nominate Hawthorn or Caleb Marchbank would announce his preference for Carlton? Anyone surprised that Travis Cloke is off to the Doggies? In all three cases, the rumours that these players were going to those clubs have been circulating for some time.

There's nothing particularly interesting about this time of year. I'm already over this trade period.

it goes for a week too long.

Keep it to one week and let it be exciting as people have to scramble to make deals.
Two weeks just draws out the process.

I don't actually care if it is boring or not, but why the hell does it need to be two weeks?  After all most of the behind the scenes maneuvering has been going on for weeks or even months.

One major reason IMO it keeps the AFL front and centre of the media just when Soccer is starting up.

You have my vote nutbean I am happy where we are at present.

We get another season into our kids to see how they progress before we have the normal amount of picks for the 2017 draft etc.

It used to be 3 weeks dont forget. That was too much. 2 weeks is about right.

I reckon it would have the affect of driving people to the soccer.  In the middle of this, more people might be interested in the Melbourne derby this weekend, than the dull machinations of the trade period.

I know we are a bunch of fanatics   but if the activity on here is anything to go by there is a lot of interest especially as we are hardly involved.

More excitement on Netbank than here....

I tried retirement, it is overated,   shift work now,   so lots of free time between the shifts  blood sweat and tears?   over Brunch at a trendy cafe in inner city Melbourne using the free wifi   check MFC site and AFL site, no trade news, news site to see what entertainment Trump is providing today   then here for a bit of cerebral exercise

Just throwing it out there, but trade week/period could be the slowest most boring time in football.

next year condense it down to three days total and watch the trades fly! Don't the AFL know this is for our entertainment.

At least there are the mandatory flares at the soccer: not a lot of flair in trade fothnight.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
