The Recruit

Hi Lads,

Not sure how many keep up with the FOX8 show "the recruit"

The top three has just been announced and we will find out next week who will win the contract. (Not sure of the specifics of the contract but I'm sure its some sort of rookie contract)

The three finalists are..

Matt- Ruck FWD

Daniel- Quick Mid or small Foward

Jordan- A bit of a swing man but predominantly playing as a key defender.

Anyone on here have a preference as to who you would want if we ended up with the recruit?

My preference would be Matt as I believe he fills the biggest hole in our list currently as seems to have the biggest ceiling.

Cheers

GCDee

No player really stood out this season to me, I think they chose characters to dramatise the show more so than football players. I wouldn't want any of them on our list but if I was forced to pick one, I'd pick Daniel.

I only watched one show where the short fat bloke went out on the pizz with the Ruckman and subsequently got a window seat on the next bus.

Listening to Malthouse and Dixen was going to prove too much for me to sit through a season.

I only caught glimpses of the first season and IMO this season seemed to have a much better top end tallent pool.. Yes some of the boys on there seemed to be on there to do stupid things and increase ratings but the three finalists all seem pretty decent.

Agree regarding dixon and malthouse, can be tricky putting up with them but I think the show is a really cool concept.

I would love for us to take a punt on one of the boys as it is effectivly a free hit.

It's really difficultt to gauge just how good these players really are...so many of the shots of them taking marks, winning ruck contests, extracting the ball etc, are so obviously set up as opposed to being real action.  But of the three finalists, I would think Matt is the most useful...however Daniel does look to have a decent skill set.

The winner takes up a Category B rookie spot, I'm not sure if we have any spots left. Like HT said, it's hard to gauge how good they really are. Johann Wagner looked the goods but could only manage 14 games and 8 goals for the Port Adelaide Magpies.

We have 1 rookie B spot available Ethan

I want the best zip-liner or canoer.

I agree GCDee I like all three of the final contenders but would have a preference for big Matt Eagles, he could fill that spot that we recruited the two King Boy's in to fill and at 26 he would be ready to go. I love the show and don't find Mick or Dicko to hard to listen to, actually like their insights on each of the players. I found Series 2 better than the First as I thought the talent in the second group was superior in a lot of ways than the first group, but if push came to shove I would't mind any of the last three contenders. Go Dee's

Go for kayak, they have better balance, agility, and can paddle both sides.

The big fella seems to leap and move alright but who would know how he measures up to AFL talent.

Plays local footy in QLD doesn't he?

I believe he still plays for Redlands, who are in the NEAFL. So a decent-ish standard.

How do they decide which team the player goes to?

In the last series they club recruiters voted to chose the winner. Then the clubs expressed interest in drafting that winner. GWS, GC and Port were the 3 clubs who did and the winner got to pick. Being a South Australian who had impressed Port's fitness coach it wasn't a surprise to see him pick Port.

No idea who will want the winner of this series but if it's the QLD I'd expect both QLD clubs to bid and the AFL to help them out with the cash if needed.

I thought Matt was from South Australia.

He was originally, then moved to QLD.

Turns out post show he's been playing for North Ballarat.

His 1 kick, 1 mark, 1 handball, 5 hit out game against Casey probably didn't leave us scrambling to get him. Some of his other games look better but he isn't exactly dominating.

Matt Eagles won and is now a Brisbane Lion. Congratulations to the guy and a look forward to keeping an eye on his career.

It's reality which means it isn't. Don't bother.

Wonder if he'll do as well as Johann Wagner did? Or Ian Holland from cricket superstar?

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
