I give it to three quarter time of Round 1 before someone calls for his head in the gameday thread.

Good luck to Goodwin. I liked Roos and there's no doubt he did exactly what he said he'd do, but at the same time it will be good to have a coach that's fresh and fully committed to the cause. No guarantees he'll be a successful coach, but at least we can be sure he won't barge in and [censored] the place up like Neeld did in 11/12.

This isn't meant to be a pot shot at Neeldy and i hope it's not take like that, but the difference between Goodwin and Neeld when they took over is so obvious! Goodwin is just so sure of himself and know's he can do the role, Neeld seemed a bit more as though he hoped he could do the role and that is clearly a huge benefit of the succession plan

I reckon it will become a more and more common part of footy moving into the future

Not only that,  but Goodwin's strength is building relationships... something Need seemed to go out of his way to avoid.

Let's hope it's the Roos/Clarko method and not the Hardwick method.

It's a double whack against the Pies because that's exactly the kind of jab Eddie likes to poke at other clubs.

If true to form Eddie will not be able to contain himself and will "retaliate" with some mouthing off on the radio.

Haha, loved the whack from PJ directed at Collingwood. That's two whacks directed at two big Victorian clubs in the past 2 weeks.

Didn't take long

“In 2008 when we did the succession plan - Collingwood then played in a preliminary final, won a premiership, played in a grand final, played in a preliminary final and then decided to rebuild because we had the bloke installed that we wanted to to get there,” he said.

Yes Eddy and what was your record after that.  All downhill?  Buckley is coaching for his career in 2017.  Goody is not.

If that's actually what he said then that's an extraordinary error if judgement.

On Bartlett, spoke to him a few times since appointment, he is the Admiral lets the captains run their own ships but provides the right support at the right times

The sledging is something I do like to see us doing, but we need to walk the walk next year. It'll be embarrassing if we go backwards after those jabs at the Pies and Tigers.

It shows just how sensitive Eddie is over Buckley.

All Peter Jackson said in an aside, was that " the succession across the road, may not have happened as well as it could have". Hardly a big sledge.

What does Eddie do, gets personal of course and attacks the man, PJ. He goes back to the Sheedy days and blames PJ for Essendon being a basket case. Nice sledge of the Bombers there as well. He attacks us as being not much good and can't wait for QB.

You can't help but wonder if Eddie is tired and emotional again, like he was when he racially vilified Goodes.

Eddie didn't need to reply, as it was an innocuous comment and in fact correct and Eddie has said that in the past.

Sometimes Eddie, you just need to shut up.

Eddie is a natural bully. Personal attacks are his stock in trade. His day will come. .

I wouldn't take any notice of anything he's said on the radio.

He has clearly learned well from Roos ... the art of uttering words and saying nothing.

His SEN interview was all motherhood statements and no actual information.

I didn't hear the SEN interview but caught him being interviewed on AFL360 last night. I thought the same thing, he handled the interview very similar to Roos, he was very good.

Aren't we only going to find out if the transition was successful when we can compare on field performance? That's where it matters.

Enjoyed listening to Goodwin though. A similar speaker to Roos isn't a bad thing at all.

Yes but I think you are missing the point of PJs comments. He was simply stating that we have handled the transition to the new coach better than Collingwood. Collingwood you will recall had a great deal of angst internally when the Buckley/Malthouse transition occurred. We have avoided this completely.

Whether it is a good idea or not or whether Goodwin is a good coach are separate matters.

They would be the same people that were calling for him to take over from Roos this year after round 2.

It's sad because he's so consistently in the media for saying stupid things, Adam Goodes, Caro recently and others and it's like he doesn't realize that he's the problem.

proof will be in the pudding though on this matter, the Dees have gone up every year for the last 4 while the Pies have gone downhill every single year and all the pressure in the world is on their club next year.

Interesting insight into the behind the scenes work Roos did getting Goodwin (and Longmire) ready to take over the senior coaches role.  We on the outside can never truly appreciate his impact.

Like others on here I am excited about the Goodwin era but will wait until we get some runs on the board (wins) before I let out an almighty sigh of relief.

Btw, 'journey' is clearly the lingo being used by the FD. Journeys and storylines apparently. It sounds like the film industry.

Agreed.

I've got to wonder if PJ just threw that in for a laugh; I can't see any other motivation.  Who hasn't on occasion got some kicks from throwing a hand grenade at someone known to be volatile?  I have visions of PJ sitting in his office just having a chuckle after hearing Ed's comments. :pj:

It also works to fire a rivalry that has been frankly half-dead for years. It'd be great to stoke those embers and have some real hatred between both clubs. I love it. Remember when we were pitied? There's still a bit of that around, but wait until they start the off to the snow rubbish again. We'll know people are worried then, just as they were under Daniher. I'd much rather be hated than pitied.

This is what I thought as well. Nothi b that comes out of Jackson's mouth is flippant; and hopefully this is the start of not only the club asserting itself, but of it pushing back into the rivalry conversation that has been the exclusive realm of the big 4.

Roosy making the comments he did about Richmond so close to this is very interesting.

I really don't think there is to much disputing that the Pies succession plan hasn't been perfect, Eddie just blew his top with an immature irrational reaction and made himself look stupid again and i'm sure PJ is sitting back having a good laugh about it.

I've already seen a fair bit of "classy debate" on facebook so it's certainly drummed up some interest, but none the less Eddie comes out looking silly

Dees head into a super exciting pre season after a few straight years of improvement

and the Pies head into a year where they either improve which they haven't managed at any stage under Buckley or they sack a favourite son of the club.

pretty happy to be a Dee.

I think PJ's comments have been blown out of proportion, but I still think it opens the door to ridicule and makes us an easy target.

It was a smooth transition and we've improved our credibility from a business and cultural standpoint, but we're a long way off being respected by the league.

I don't disagree with Eddie. Someone's dished it and he's hit back.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
