At the opening bounce and after many (but not all) goals we start with an extra forward running from the defensive side of the centre square. Hogan was the designated forward at the opening bounce.

It's a tactic I quite like.

Should not be Hogan. When that player comes off the back it needs to be a Kent, Hunt or Pettracca, of those not playing Garlett, Harmes, Kennedy, Salem, Kennedy-Harris. But cant be Hogan or Watts what we need is them up forward to make a contest if we win it. A couple of times a game we win it and kick it straight to their loose man. When we structure up well i like the tactic too, its dangerous but it also can break the game open. Adelaide do it better than anyone.

I would normally agree with you but I wonder whether it was intended to get Hogan into the game early. He's obviously been struggling recently. Whatever the reason, I thought Hogan was one of our best. Unfortunately, his poor kicking, particularly for goal, sees his performance (rightly) being scored lower.

Yeah I think so, they might like doing it to shake his man so he can run around on his own for a while. He played the exact role I want to see him play for his whole career. He took 14 marks provided an option time and time again and ran his man into the ground, he kicked 1.3, switch that to 2.1 a game and he will be the star we need. Weid is who we want to be kicking bags in his future, Hogan needs to drift forward at times and get a bonus goal or 2 but he isnt going to be a 60 goal forward he is a link up forward.

An example should be made of him this week. As was with Watts last year. Dropping him for the last game may just be the reminder he and the other senior players need going into pre-season. Right now he is not deserving of a spot over a number of others.

Gee    a week in football is a long time.........Vince was nearly BOG last week against Port and 1 week later people want him dropped.   Talk about a overreaction.

Bernie has been great since he came across from Adelaide, He provides leadership for our young players,is a professional the way he prepares and is our current "Bluey" holder and has been fairly prominate in our wins this year

Yes he has had a few bad games but he is not alone in this.

A Poor game or 2 is acceptable but repeated poor form should not be. There are players in the 2s who deserve a spot over bernie who has been poor recently. He is in our best 22 and will play round 1 next year without doubt, but it will serve as a reminder for him and everone else that no matter who you are if you are continually poor you get dropped.

You're right, what bernie has brought since he moved from Adelaide has been nothing short of outstanding. But that doesnt change the fact he has been poor in the last half of the season. Since the bye I remember 2 good games against St kilda and Port and an average "good enough" type game against hawthorn inbetween a long string of not so good games... If it was poor games in between good ones i would agree its an overreaction, but his long term form has not been very good. 3/8 isnt good enough

He's not on his own.  There were a number last week, who have performed well for most of the year, but put in shockers on Sunday.  Who do you suggest should replace him if we drop him?

Ok just to clarify I said he had been poor most of the second half of the year not just Sunday.

That aside, Salem is the obvious choice to replace him. If not then maybe Wagner. Out of the square solution maybe play Jones off HB like they have at times and play ANB in the middle where he is actually usefull, then you can have in of Garlett/Kennedy/JKH for Vince. There are many options, its last game we might as well try something

Can't agree.  Jetta was BOG by a mile for us.

Fair call. He was very good. I just like how Hunt continued to take on the game when quite a few didn't.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
