GEELONG VFL v CASEY SCORPIONS

The Scorpions travel down the highway to Sleepy Hollow to play the Cats. Casey is virtually assured of a top two spot and I'm sure will take a good look at Simonds Stadium in the week before their senior counterparts slug it out.

I would suggest the odds of that lineup playing on the weekend are astronomical.

Is the Dev league playing?  Assume King is still working his way up from there?

Why is this game this week? Why don't they have this game next Week as a Certain Raiser to the seniors in Round 23

Must admit I'm a bit surprised with Geelong's VFL side. It's like the boulevard of broken dreams.

I had the impression that their young brigade with Bews, Murdoch, Delaney, Horlin-Smith, Motlop, Kersten, Lang & Cowan were future stars all, primed to take over seamlessly from their seniors and lead them away from the cliff. Even if like us, they've just got not much injuries, it's still a mild surprise that none of the above are in their current best 22.

And is their CHF a certain journeyman and former recruiting coup who was going to assure them of future success at one stage? If there is a God, he will line up against Dunn, who will be inside his head the whole game. Could be messy.

Or why don't they play them both on the same day? To have the Scorpions Development League game vs the Zebas on Saturday then the VFL Scorps vs the Cats on Sunday is logistically insane (unless KC had typed a misprint)!

No Maynard, that's disappointing

You don't think he needs a preseason to get match fit ?

The initial article mentioned he'd been secretly training with the Scorps and working with Crossy. It didn't say for how long though. With the anouncement I guess I put 1 and 1 together and came up with 3 - that he'd be playing development league this weekend.

Does anyone have info on roughly how much training he's done? How much would he need to play development league?

I don't know the answer either, but I suspect he'd be more susceptible to injury without a really solid base.

Then beat Geelong at the MCG the next game and all is good in the world.

I love the new brand of optimism on Demonland.

Resilience then Faith then Hope then Optomism then Excitement then Expectations then Nervousness then Premiership then Merchandise spending then Arrogance. Hawthorn is stuck on arrogance.

Never in doubt...

Nathan Freeman playing for Sandy Development side. 3 years since drafting and no AFL games yet. Continually injured. We dodged a bullet there.

The VFL fixture would have to be the worst planned fixtures going around in the country.

The GFC appear averse to having a curtain raiser on their precious turf. The last time Casey played Geelong as a curtain raiser was the day we'd all rather forget.

The Cats rarely, if ever, have their VFL side play in a curtain raiser.

Max kicked a couple of goals and was handy.

Joel Smith will play tomorrow for the seniors.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
