I'm sure GCS would say "fine, if you don't think he's worth it, we're happy to keep him anyway."

It's not a fire sale; if anyone wants O'Meara, they're going to have to pay for him like he is fit or they simply won't get him.

Unless you are the Dons and he goes into the PSD.

Correct. So only one of our best mids, Tyson was traded for. Now some will throw in Bernie as well, but I was making a general point.

I agree with the general point Red but during the last few years it would have been incredibly hard to get a player to agree on a trade to us.

Im sure if options were available that were rumoured we definitely would have traded some picks.

This time however it feels like our selections were a bit more solid.... Or so far anyways.

Im a massive Jaeger fan, even his name sounds cool. But definitely not worth rolling the dice on for me unless with was for some player/s who desperately wanted out which I can't see being the case

But what I like about all this O'Meara hype is that some desperate and idiotic club will pay way overs for him, the Suns' midfield will be weakened, another opposition club will bloat their salary cap and enable us to go after the players that we need to fill the final few holes. And most likely, O'Meara will never be able to string together a full season at AFL level.

Hmmm ... two top ten picks or equivalent, and $700K p.a., for someone who has been out injured for 2 whole seasons?

Now which club could possibly be that desperate & idiotic??? ...

I actually think he'll end up at Hawthorn. They can afford to take that risk. They almost have to take that risk, given their aging stars.

Agree but I'm not sure where they'll get the picks from.  Freo aren't going to give them pick 3 for Hill.

Maybe this year's 1st and next year's 1st but they won't be < pick 10.

It depends how much they think he'll get back on the park. If they think it's worth it, they might just trade a player or two that could get them the required picks. Or the Suns may just have to accept two late first rounders for him.

Players like who?  Hill apparently is on the table to Freo but that would mean Freo's 2nd rounder e.g. ~21.

They might have to look at someone like Whitecross, Hartung or Shiels. That is, I repeat, if they believe O'Meara's knee will hold up.

None of them deliver a top 10 pick, they're like Hill.

Look I agree with you - the Hawks will be desperate to trade their way out of theitr impending cliff but it's not going to be easy.

Yep, I'm lost and the fact that they don't have a couple of fringers that could be bundled together for a first rounder is telling, IMO.

I agree. It'll be a team that can afford to take the risk.

They won't get 2 first round picks. This is their starting point.  It's like any deal, the two parties start at opposite ends of the spectrum and then work toward an agreed middle ground.

My guess is, if he is traded, it'll end up being a 1st round and a second, or a first round and a third. No club will risk 2 first round picks on someone with such a question mark on fitness.

Imagine Rocket came out and said, we're only looking for a 2nd round pick for Jaeger.  It's all just media games at this stage.

I think the Hawks are about 1 year off having a North Melbournesque fall.

O'Meara is one player, they need to replace 4-5 champions.  It's not going to happen.

Yeah, I think they're about a year behind North too. But they're an arrogant football club remember and when clubs get arrogant (Essendon, Melbourne of the 60's and Hawthorn and Geelong now), they tend to believe their own spin.

I hope and think they will go for O'Meara.

They'll be hitting FA very hard, that's their best course of action, but there doesn't appear to be much there this year.

Is Fyfe a FA at the end of next year?

Next years first round pick and a class player from our list and possibly $600000 will most likely get him. It's so worth it. He'll be our best player for 8 - 10 years.

He won't get on the park, mate. He's barely played AFL footy. I wouldn't give up a Salem/class player from our list for an injury-riddled O'Meara. I'm sorry, I just wouldn't and I don't think the MFC will entertain it either.

You think so?

I wouldn't swap Oliver or Petracca or Brayshaw or Viney for him. Would you?

Definitely not Hunt. Probably not Stretch, Salem or Tyson either. They are fit and don't have damaged Patellas and have played games in the last 2 years.

Was over rated due to his good looks and the latent and not so latent homosexuality of the media fraternity.

Sure he is a good footballer-but give me ugly old Clarrie Choo Choo over this bloke any day.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
