I reckon Merret has merit.

Big defender,ready made,strong and needs a change.Why not.

He turns 32 this year, nearly retired at the end of last year and is likely to do so at the end of this. Got one more year at the absolute most.

The issue with Crouch is the fact that he is more in love with the p155 than he is the football...

Punts and drinks like a machine....

And if anyone wants to know my source.... It's my own eyes on a weekly basis

I trust your sight Kerazzy.

I'd be thinking about the little Pres & Sam Day, packaged up together, from GCS's?    But who do you think we may have to trade with them, KJ ?

Would you trade Wagner, Dawes, Dunn + our 2nd Rnd pick ?

Sam Day ... throw a 5 year contract his way. He is a gun. Can play anywhere in the spine from FB to Full Forward.

Err...

no..

Hibberd makes sense to me. Just hope it doesn't mean Jetta is going anywhere.

Melksham then could tag/wing or half back, handy depth otherwise. Vince can play more midfield. Salem can play forward/mid where he'll be most damaging.

I'd love a 2nd ruck but maybe draft/develop is the best option.

3rd tall defender is a needs position. Oscar/Tom/Frost tall defensive combination has merit but they don't kick it well. I'd rather those 3 fight for 2 spots. Then to have a Josh Gibson or Easton Wood style player next to them.

Imagine those 3 fighting for 2 spots. A gun 3rd tall with Lumumba for depth. Jetta in a back pocket. Vince floating from a flank. Plus Hunt, Wagner, Melksham, Hibberd fighting for 2 spots, that's proper competition for spots in a backline with a good mix of pace, skill and defensive ability.

If there's not a 3rd tall available then I'd hit up the draft for one as a priority.

Although it would be a bit harsh on young Wagner, I would not hesitate in the slightest to make that trade... Of course this is all hypothetical as GC would be mad to complete that trade...

Plus, if you believe the BS that comes out of the local SA media, the Crows are all over Day like white on rice

Maybe, but they need leadership & mature heads, like the Titanic needed more buoyancy.

They are seriously in a sorry state, that only older heads can help.   They're original leadership has failed that clubs build.

They are turning over the list to refresh it,  but again, they need more conservative maturity.  Off field help around the club, & also onfield.

They could use Dunn, & Wagner would be very helpful, although I don't like losing him. As well as picks to balance the equation.

I think we could use Prestia, & Day's height & athleticism, to try to get him to be a forward/2nd ruck.

Haha nah that's Harvey......

He's 31, 32 by the start of next season. O Mac really needs another season to bulk up, which I think after next season he will be 100% ready.

Merrett is a free agent so would cost us nothing and could be our big fullback for a year or two if his form is good enough.

By the way I would only go for him if we can't find another big defender who is younger but we need someone to help protect Omac as he needs time.

Please No, the guy is a [censored] whose only redeeming feature is that he reminds me a little of grounds keeper Willy.

I remember feeling sick as he ran 30m to punch Frawley in the back of the head. I'm pretty sure, to further etch the grudge in my mind, Razor Ray didn't award a 50m penalty, then paid a free kick against us for holding. Two grudges for the price of one, were born on that day.

Of course you wouldn't because we would be making out like bandits. Who in their right mind thinks we could lure Prestia AND Day for those 3 and a 2nd rounder?

Interesting article in the age quoting Paul Chapman who caught up with Hurley and said he wasn't sure whether he would stick around at Essendon as there is still some anger at the club and he has a clause in his contract to get out under the circumstances.

Also on Footy Classified last night Hutchy said he believes Hurley and Hibberd will be at the same club next year. Lloyd didn't seem to have anything to say on the matter.

Typical media speculation but food for thought nonetheless.

Hurley apparently closer to leaving Bombers than staying

I think we have a great core of youngsters and need to add good players through trade and free agency to help push us into the top 8 next season.

Hibberd, Hurley, Daw, Prestia, O'Meara, Mitch or Nathan Brown, Daniel Merrett.

These are all guys we should be looking at to possibly bring in.

- Hurley, would be great but don't like our chances

- Hibberd, yes please

- Daw, can't believe people rate him, DUD

- Prestia, ooo yes please

- O'Meara, no doubt a gun, but would have to offer big, and is a big risk considering he has terrible knee issues and hasn't been on the park for two years. Would like him, but a risk

- I think Mitch Brown is better than Nathan

- Daniel Merrett no thanks

Need more mids. Vince and Jones will be in there twilight once our window opens. Need at least two more mids

Please expand. as I have my hopes up after reading about the Hurley/Hibberd package defection.

Please Dees, for the love of god, and for the entire AFL, take these blokes off the drug cheats for zero cost.  Then the essedon supporters can whine all they like, as we collect flags, while they collect early draft picks.

Think real though... they aren't going to leave Essendon for nothing. Why can't people on here think with their brains and not with their heart. I know it's hard, but he all have to be realistic

I am gobsmacked anyone wouldn't  treat a club that was prepared to play lotto with your health and were more concerned about everything "other" than the players ( really) with anything but contempt.

Certainly wouldn't be helping c them. Be running as quickly as could .

Are the banned bombers any sort of risk given they haven't played for a year? No idea what to expect when they return next year

It's certainly something  you would need to be diligent about.

Not just any mids, but A graders. We won't get them all one off season, but that's the beauty of FA for a 'destination club'. And we are happily no longer viewed as a basketcase. We'll land some big fish in the next 2-3 years.

It's the new 'We will force him to the preseason draft and get him for nothing!'

Why?

The last article I read said Hurley had an "out" clause in his contract if he was suspended for the drugs thing.

If that is the case, we offer him an attractive contract, and tell him that its on the condition he tells essedon to eff off. It's actually not that hard. Just requires a backbone.

This one is not a pipe dream.

Realistic is living in the real world.

Hurley can leave for nothing. Its not make believe.

If Hurley were to come to us, would it be as a delisted free agent and we would have to pay nothing to the bumbers? Has this been clarified anywhere?

its a fairly big factor in the equation.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
