He might look like them, but his play is not even close. Talk about premature adulation.

Talking about a first year player and who he moves like mate

There is something about Clarries composure, intensity at the contest and ability to release the ball to advantage by hand that is truly outstanding and as long as his body doesn't let him down must have the makings of an elite career. Also Viney seems to have gained a yard of pace - he's almost impossible to catch now and his kicking has improved out of sight. He certainly has his old man covered in that area.

These comments from first Burgan and then Roos in this article neatly sum up the point i was making about the importance of Hunt and Wagner for both the now and the future (ie that they were selected to increase our chances of winning now and for their development) and why Wagner was selected ahead of Grimes:

If Josh Wagner hadn’t showed his promise in his just his second AFL game against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena in round two, then he reinforced it in his native state.

His run down tackle on Ablett, one of the game’s greatest players, typified his effort and his side on the night.

Jayden Hunt also played his best game yet. His numbers were good, without being great.

His breakaway pace and ability to rebound was evident.

He looms as an integral part of Melbourne’s side long term and offers a point of difference Melbourne has been looking to add to its mix.....

“Gawny (Max Gawn) was a great contributor to our win, and so was [Jack] Viney and Chunk (Nathan Jones), but I really liked Wags and Hunty off half-back,” Roos said.

“Hunty’s speed was unreal and it’s great to see him building his confidence and use his legs and run. With Wags, I just love it when he gets the ball, because you know that he’ll use it.

“Definitely Gawny, Vines and Chunk were good, but I thought those two (Hunt and Wagner) were really good.”

I wonder what those who want Headless chook  back next week make of that?  Who would he replace?

Doesn't move like either Flower or Fyfe. So what other similarities are there? Marking? Kicking? Handballing?

Hunt looks like he can offer a lot to our side, but there's no need to make ridiculous comparisons to superstars.

That was the worst performance from a Melbourne side I have ever seen. Shame on you. Shame on you for the fraud. You guys have no idea what is required to be the best. I am disgusted. You really think you can rest on your laurels on that effort? Pathetic. You lot will need to do a lot better than that to beat Footscray. It is meaningless I agree but what the [censored] are you prepared to do to make amends?

More like a better mans Bartram or Hoppy! maybe close to a Whelan OR  better still. .. the best attributes of all of these guys!

I watched the second half again tonight, can't quite believe it, I remember when the game ended on Saturday I just felt so deliriously happy, we soared like an Eagle. The Scorp's were quite brilliant as well yesterday, what a weekend for us mad Dee's supporters.

Didn't think it needed it's own thread, but they are currently talking about the Dees and Jesse Hogan On the Couch show. Recommend you flick it on right now if you have foxtel

I think he moves a lot like Fyfe and his running gait is very much like Flowers

not saying he will be anything like them skills wise and has a long way to go but has great attributes

fair enough if you don't rate him but I think he will be something special just an opinion and I'm entitled to it

It was a fairly short segment but I will sum it up:

All four of David King, Jason Dunstall, Gerad Healy and Jonathan Brown agreed that Hogan (and Tom Lynch) are 1 in 20 year players

They said Lynch, despite being older, is ahead of Hogan at this stage and is a more complete player. Hogan needs to be able to kick 50m and obviously his goalkicking and run up.

They said Ross Lyon should go to Hogan right now and offer him 15 million over 10 years. They said Melbourne will not need to offer as much to keep him, and he would be pretty silly to leave Melbourne the way we are going. They mentioned with all the potential A grade talent we have (Oliver, Viney, Petracca, Gawn, T.Mac, Weideman, Brayshaw, Tyson) we need to make sure we have the cash to retain all of those players, which will be key to whether we are able to push for a flag in the coming years.

Add break now, after the break Browny will name is top 5 young players in the game

He don't bounce the ball like Robbie....

#1 Hogan

#2 Bontempelli

#3 Cripps

Don't get the constant focus on this stuff. He can kick 50 and is a great set shot. His accuracy is absolutely fine - why is it 'obvious' that he needs to fix his goalkicking and run up?

Because he is a liability to make the journey from 50m. His run up is all over the place. His accuracy has dropped this year and it doesn't take a genius to see that it needs work

I was fast forwarding a Freo game and Fyfe was moving like Hunt.

I didn't realise we are getting Heeney

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
