Changes v Gold Coast

Tommy will have 15 kicked on him by Lynch this week if he/we play like today

Out: Harmes, Frost, Hunt, Wagner, Salem (pending concussion)

In: Trengove, M Jones, ANB, Grimes, Stretch

I don't really want Trengove making his return to AFL footy that soon, nor at bloody Metricon of all places! He will run out on the 'G at some point before the bye, nothing surer.

Unless he has an absolute belter tomorrow and next week at Casey, and he might come back in for the Breast Cancer match against the undermanned Bulldogs.

Injuries maybe Harmes (cork) and Salem (concussion). Others to consider omitting would be Frost and Dunn. GCS have a strong forward line. Dunny is very slow and undersized for KPD

Hunt did not have his greatest game today, let's be honest, but calling for him to be dropped on the back of it is just ridiculous IMHO...

Was one of the only ones to attempt to run and carry and even when he did lose the ball in the last quarter, he quickly bounced back and laid a ripping tackle.

The kid has the attributes of a great player and dropping him when there were clearly another 10 players worse than him is just plain stupid...

Having said that, the coaching staff will probably drop him

I'd  drop drop him. Was very fumbly today and not sure his decision making up to it yet.

Not to mention Dumb Dumb Dumb.

At this stage I would be looking at:

Out: Salem (concussion), Harmes (injured/rest), Dunn, Wagner, Frost

In: M Jones, Garland, O McDonald, Trengove, Oliver

Dunn looks incapable of playing the formation defence we are implementing and Wagner needs a spell.

I probably will be ridiculed but I reckon Garland and maybe Grimes will come in, if they do well at Casey.

No ridicule here. I think Oscar and Garland would have added more than a flat footed Lumumba and slow undersized Dunn. Grimes for Bugg no argument. We need to increase our OOB on the full count.

Maybe I should go have a glass of red instead of posting after watching that. Ommmmmmm

Have youse seen Gold Coast,? shocking tonight, and it's very hot and they must go home and recover, quietly confident they won't turn a 100 point loss around next week.

Or, they will be burnt by tonight and come out and smash us

I heard Chris Scott say recently that he believes sticking with more-or-less the same 22 is more beneficial than swinging the axe after a bad loss. I think Roos has the same mindset and would be surprised if there's more than 2-3 changes.

I'd be staggered if Salem played, he didn't know what planet he was on after the head clash. Matt Jones will probably be his replacement. I'd also bring in Oliver for Harmes. That's it.

Oliver, Matt Jones, ANB looking likely. I'd be keen to give Trengove more time to keep building and building, I want him to believe he's going to dominate before he's back, but if they pick him I'll be pumped. Oscar a good chance, need a tall match up for Peter Wright. Stretch and even Brayshaw possible.

I'd suggest Salem needs a rest regardless of the concussion. Frost out. Dunn easily could be dropped. Harmes if his cork is no good.

FB: Wagner Oscar  Jetta
HB: Vince  T Mc   Lumumba
C: M Jones  Jones  Bugg
HF: Kennedy Hogan Petracca
FF: Watts Pedersen  Garlett
Foll: Gawn  Viney  Tyson
Int: Oliver  Hunt  Kent  Harmes/ANB/Trengove

Vince to half back is probably the biggest change I want. Just to get an experienced head back there. Everything else is mainly shuffling things around. I don't want to throw out too many guys on the back of one disappointing day, and particularly I'd like to new young defenders in.

Agree that Bugg should go out. I'd have him for Oliver for starters. OLIVER FOR BUGG.

Frost was ordinary after a pretty decent start, but who was worse: Frost or Pedersen? Pedo's work rate at times was half decent, but his marking was off and when he doesn't mark, he's near useless. I'd say one of those two will be out.

If Grimes comes in we're in big trouble. Fortunately, he won't. He's having enough trouble working out how to move the ball on quickly, let alone play a zone defence.

I didn't think Hunt was that bad. He was caught out a few times on the break (as were the rest of the defence), but he'll learn. I'd play Hunt and Wagner again next week.

I think Dunn stays to provide Tommy extra support for combatting Lynch. I'd be demanding more of Dunn. He was hopeless today. You have a week to redeem yourself, Lynden.

Roos said Gus will have to put a solid block of footy together at Casey, so he won't be back.

I reckon Harmes should go out for ANB though. ANB FOR HARMES.

Kent will be another lucky one this week. But if he doesn't bring the required work rate again next week he should be dropped.

I can't currently find a spot for Trenners. If he kills it tomorrow, then I'd consider bringing him in for Frost or Pedersen. Not like for like by any stretch of the imagination, but you find ways to get good players into the 22, as Roos noted during the week.

What?  No, seriously.... WHAT?

As I said earlier when Clint mentioned it (and retracted it) - laughable.

Having calmed down a little i don't think there will be any huge amount of changes.

Harmes and Frost orPederson out

Oliver and ANB in

I still think we're playing with one to many tall forwards, Hogan, Frost/Pederson and Watts is fine

Might seem extreme but i think Kent should be on notice, some weeks he's great and provides a lot, today he was nothing but a passanger, we aren't good enough to carry anyone.

I don't rate Bugg. He's messy. He's like having a Tommy Mac on the wing. He can do the odd good thing, but ultimately his untidy play shoots us in the foot. Even his kick to Hogan today should have been to Hogan's advantage towards the square. Instead, Jesse was good enough to take a terrific contested mark against two, when it slid off the side of Bugg's boot.

It's tough for spots. It happens. I'm not saying he will be dropped. I'm saying I'd prefer if he was.

Are you trying to tell me that you would drop Bugg over Hunt, Harmes, Wagner, Frost and others?

Again - laughable.  You might not rate Bugg, but thank christ you don't sit on the selection table.  The bloke is becoming an integral cog in our side whether you rate him or not.

Pederson didn't do enough to hold his spot, but unfortunately needs to stay as the second ruck. Harmes made too many errors and was hanging on to his spot going in. Riewoldt's dominance in the first half exposed the need for Frost to go back. Frost has displayed all the attributes required to be a premier CHB, and yet lacks essential skills required to play forward, time to play him back.  Dunn is horribly out of form and possibly needs time in the seconds.

I don't think wholesale changes area  required, but some may force their way in tomorrow.

He's playing a role, he's pretty accountable, hard at the contest, leading our side for tackles and he's getting under the oppositions skin, his role last week was huge in the win

Which is why I'm constantly annoyed at how easily people want to give him the flick.  We recruit a bloke who can do all the above things, and he does them consistently, and they want him dropped.

I think Bugg did the old point at the scoreboard troll during the first quarter. Some Saints supporters next to me were having a go at him. Should get dropped for that alone.

No chance Bugg should or will be dropped. Frankly I'm disappointed he wasn't at his annoying, pesty, niggling best today; it was instrumental in our win last week.

The bloke laid one tackle for the day and played as a winger. He was part of the reason we got sliced open today. He may have had it 21 times, but it's what he does with them.

For starters, there's no point comparing Bugg with Hunt and Wagner. He's playing a completely different role. And as I mentioned, I'd keep both Hunt and Wagner in for next week. So it basically comes down to Kent (many know my thoughts on him), Frost or Bugg. Hogan, Watts and Garlett are safe. Even though he went in and out of the game, even Kennedy had more moments than Bugg for mine. Frost did a bit of rucking today, so as more strings than merely a pest. Frost missed a sitter, okay, but I'd probably have him before Bugg.

Each to their own though.

Last time I say it - even considering dropping Bugg over the others is madness and so short sighted that I'm surprised it's coming from you.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
