"COLLINGWOOD is facing a fine after it was forced to make a late change from outside its emergencies for Sunday's clash against Melbourne at the MCG.

The Magpies withdrew defender Tyson Goldsack because of illness and replaced the 28-year-old with forward-turned-backman Jesse White, who was not named in the initial 25-man squad.

The AFL confirmed Collingwood would be sanctioned for the late change.

White, 28, will line up for his first appearance of the season against the Demons.

The Magpies' emergencies for the match are American import Mason Cox, Matthew Goodyear and Brent Macaffer.

Final terms will be confirmed 90 minutes before the opening bounce."

Should not be allowed. What's the point of emergencies if clubs do this?

What's the point of having a 40 player list if you can't pick any player you want at anytime before the match?  It not like the game had already started.  Named emergancies is really pretty pointless

Unfortunately I have to go to a wedding that starts half way through the game. I've set up Foxtel Go on my phone so will be sneaking off to the toilet quite often to watch the game. Depending on how we go will probably determine how much I drink.

Well you'll end up drunk either way.

What do you mean you "have" to go? Is it your wedding?

Good point. It will determine my level of drunkeness. :roos:

Collingwood loosing Goldsack is probably a win for us, thought bringing in white at the last minute may change the dynamics of who plays on who due to his extra height.

Well we're about to push back and depart for Perf so the game will be done and dusted by the time I land - hopefully to a positive result. Have set Foxtel to record also but have since learnt Tree Fu Tom and MKR have been left on series link recording for the whole week so might not have enough memory space to fit the game in.

A divorce may be on the cards the way this is shaping up.

I'm not sure which of those two is the worst!

At least you don't have to keep turning the volume up to drown out the annoying sounds of 'Peppa Pig goes to Potato City' :(

Might well be time for a great escape Steve

Howe on the pre-game banging on about the Pies exciting young list...(and his running ability and a move to the wing).

MFCSS has me backing him for the first goal at $14.

Lay off Mr Potato. He's your friend and mine.

Just saw that Hodge is part of the commentary team for the game. I am not a huge fan of having players currently on an AFL list as part of a telecast team. Just get that feeling that they could be potentially biased and/or not entirely forthright in their opinions.  Others may like it, but that is just my opinion.

They are fast and tall. I don't think we match up well and I'm worried. Plenty of Dees support here...

Word is a few of the pies blokes aren't feeling great with the flu, some pulled out but some are playing! pretty handy.

Demons by 35

Dees by 41 Jesse to kick 6

Waiting for Demonland to crash like it always does during Game Days.

The filth hit by the flu this week.

That's what happens when you smoke out of the same bong.

Mythbusters needs to do an episode on Watts' first game (and that tackle).

They just had to say that Cloke has only kicked 3 goals this season. Thanks. Now he'll kick 3 by half time.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
