Do you think it's time for Roos to take a step back on match day and hands the on field reigns over to Goodwin? Or is there not much a coach can do on match day? I would suggest a heart transplant for a few players but that's obviously not going to happen. 

Roos proved once again yesterday that he's not much of a match day coach.

However, if that whole room of assistants are unable to hatch a plan to mitigate, change or fix problems as they arise then we're screwed.

Makes sense now. Roos in the box isn't necessarily helping so why no give the reigns to our future coach and roos sits on the bench offering valuable advice directly to players

Maybe he said to Goodwin - go for it today, it is all yours.  Not so silly, everyone expecting a win.  If Roos did give it over to Goodwin he and Macca would give input but let Goodwin could make the final call on tactics.

In the absence of knowing how the box was set up calling for anyone to step aside is premature. 

My view is the coaching box as a whole failed badly.  They need to sort themselves out, fast.

It doesn't matter who sits in the box if the players aren't in it mentally and the effort isn't there, 90% of what went wrong yesterday lies between the ears of the players.

While the thought of Goodwin taking over after yesterday has crossed my mind,I don't think him taking over in a crisis situation would be the best for him or the club.Although if the rot continues in the next few weeks there might not be much choice.

What? So the supporters and media can devour another coach?

I think Roos provides the perfect cover for Goodwin. It was a bad loss on the weekend, granted, but this season has only just begun.

Don't believe this at all. There wasn't too much wrong with our structure bar the ongoing issue we have going forward. 

If you compare the four previous games with yesterday, it's clear that the players did not have the intensity to hunt the ball carrier which has become a bit of a trademark of ours this season.

We're not ready to put teams to the sword yet because we don't have a forward structure that works. That means that if our intensity drops off through the middle (like yesterday) we have the potential to be beaten by anyone.

I agree. It was evident last year that Roos wasn't much of a match day coach. Very good in other areas, just not much of a match day coach. Get Goodwin in the box and leave him there IMO.

We all know how Roos coached Sydney.

We get the whole strip it back, get back to basics when he first took over, focus on defending and stoping the blowouts but after two years of defending its time to attack and he hasn't the skill set to coach us to the next step. He's built the list, attempted to change the culture and brought a level of professionalism to the place but the time is now.

Robert Shaw made a great point on SEN this morning when speaking about Freo. He said : They tried this new craze that is "attacking football" and it hasn't worked, the currently sit 0-2. Next week there will be a 7 goals to 8 goals game as they go back into lockdown mode, because it's all they know. 

What do we now do? I think Roos has taken us as far as he can. His role on match day should now be sitting on the bench trying to get into and stay in the players heads, because clearly all the work he has done so far with regards to mental approach/application and that of Leading Teams has been a waste.

Interested to see how Carltons season plays out. Bulldogs turned it around in one season under Beverage, everything takes this club longer, everything. 

Would also love to know how much Goodwin is on, we need to know as soon as possible if he can coach. He still got 3 years after this season. 

Serious questtion, who is touted as the next coach in waiting. Anyone left at Hawthorn? 

where are we going with Roos as coach, unless he can take us deep into the season as a finals chance we stand to gain nothing, it would make more sense to win 7 under Goodwin than 9 with Roos

Goodwin was in the box though, mate. You mean we should give Goodwin the reigns over delivery of messages and game style.

Yes but why weren't the players switched on? 

How many more bonding sessions are needed? How many more digging their own toilet getaways? 

Roos is meant to be the ultimate team builder, empowering the players etc. In his third year as coach he is clearly at a loss.

What is Goodwin's role at the moment if it isn't to instruct and motivate too? I'm just not convinced it's as simple as Goodwin into the hot-seat, Roos onto the bench. But the players certainly do need a consistency of message and game plan, which I'm not entirely sure they're being given adequately at the moment.

But we have also had some of the best wins of the past decade.

Something is brewing and it is a matter of the team turning the corner.

Frustrated as hell with him atm but I think him seeing out the year is in the team's best interests.

Gee, we've been here before.

If we are 1-5, it would have to be reviwwed. As much as I ascribe to the coaching being a collective effort, if the players respond more positively to Goodwin in the top job, it may be time. The question is loitering: can Roos take us any further forward?

Yesterday was alarming in the sense it was such a dramatic step backwards. But it can be rectified.

You'd like to think players get to a stage where they are self motivated. The good teams seem to have those types.

Goodwin should take over effective immediately.

Theres no time to waste anymore,  the players clearly prefer playing for him and he is going to be their coach long term,.  Theres literally no point having Roos as coach.   Whats the reasoning?  Not changing the plan., meaning  the club is inflexible?  Thats not a good thing.

Watch the Blues playing under Bolton they are re-energized.  Have no doubt we would be 2-0 if Goodwin was coach and we would have beaten GWS by 30-40.

Both goodwin and roos would have been making moves in the box with input from other line coaches. Yes, yhe final decision lies with Roos, but be honest, when it comes down to it or players are weak minded frontrunners. 

I think there is a huge case at the MFC of believing their own hype, Brayshaw is the one i feel sorry for, i think we overcooked him last year and we bought him in clearly underdone this week. 

Jesse Hogan to be is someone who knows how talented he is but his work rate isn't anywhere near where it should be, which i think it was last year.

Tom Mcdonald had another shocker, beaten totally but couldn't do anything on offense either.

Max Gawn wins a lot of hit outs but so few to any real advantage, that's what he needs to start doing before he'll reach the heights of Goldstein and Mumford

While we have Roos as match day coach we will bumble along like the last 2 seasons. Some slashing wins, and some games where we slip on a banana peel and fall down a manhole and then the pretty girl shoves a cream pie in our face. Like yesterday.

We have the list. If we're going places we need the Goodwin style every week, for better or worse. Otherwise we risk treading water while everyone else is doing the aussie crawl for the finish line.
