No. This version I believe is used for promotional purposes, to spruce it up a bit. It's been around for a few years now.

That was posted in 2011 on Melbourne's YouTube channel. It's the same song just with a crisper instrumental and new vocalists. I doubt they'd ever place the game-day theme, though.

Long time reader first time poster and apologise for the trivial nature. Watching the new 'Pledge to Win' video on the MFC website tonight I heard way more banjo then I've ever notice in our theme song.

Does this mean we have a re-recorded version, maybe including the word Melbourne as has been mentioned in years gone by.

Could be crm, but to me it just sounds like a synthesised reworking of the theme introduction for a few bars for the purposes of the ad. I was hoping it would have a bit of Metalica thrown in there somewhere :)

It's funny how we all differ.........I loved that logo......Much better than the plain and boring one we have now.

I found this on Bigfooty

"Ron Tudor (Fable Records) had the bright idea in the early 70s that his company should get a brassy-jazzy musical backing group into a studio together with a group of male voices, headed by Barry Crocker, to record all and each of the 12 club songs. I think you could buy a 45rpm single in a suitably-coloured sleeve for about a buck and as well the lot were released on LP. Fitzroy's and Sth Melbourne's originals have had to be modified and this list has been augmented and modified; the initial recordings are musically-evident. Fable Records folded in 1984 so I guess the rights were bought by someone with some foresight".

These are brilliant versions and shouldn't be messed with. Great singing and arrangements. Ours has banjo.... Awesome! Maybe it was Smacka Fitzgibbon? (I don't know). And Barry Crocker! (I didn't know this)

Some info on "The Fable Label", which, in the early seventies, had some iconic Australian artists and hits.

What I am loving is Hells Bells by ACDC leading into our theme song.. It is [censored] epic!!

I'd like to hear Hells Bells Pre Home games,  before the players come out to run thru the banner...   then the theme song after they break thru the banner,  & as they do their run-thru's.

I just want to hear them play the words of the second verse (on 26 occasions ) this year!  It matters very little whether we have banjos or violins as any semblance of a tune is accidental once we start singing!

good I'm glad... but the timing is everything.   add curtain raisers & away we go.

# I didn't get to any games last season as I'm 2.5hrs drive from the 'G',  & 1 hr from the train.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
