Sincere apologies: It was Energy Watch I was trying to think of. When I couldn't, Kaspersky came to mind, because I remember my "who are THEY?" reaction, me being on the computer-illiteracy spectrum (it was a great story how it came about though, I remember).

My question still stands, though: does anyone know anything more about Greenwood?

Not only that, but with the Free Trade agreement recently being enacted into Law, the potential for networking between Australian and Chinese interests is huge.  For those who have ever done business in China, you will know that it can take a considerable amount of time to earn the trust of joint venture partners in China.  However, once you have managed to have achieved that, is it full steam ahead.

Also read that Scully packed up and went home because of the unacceptable behaviour in the group on that trip. Is that true? Who knows?

The Gawn Yawn. Gave Tom that lightbulb moment where he thought, if that's what being at an AFL club is like, then I'm packing my bags to go off to another AFL club that I've already got a handshake agreement with.

And you can rest assured when things finally start looking very rosy in the Chinese relationship, the AFL will decide to start international zoning for clubs - and give China to Hawthorn and Essendon.

There was a time when the "big 4" (the once-was version that included Carlton and Essendon) all played each other twice per year in "blockbusters", and lesser clubs were making noise about not getting opportunities to play these big drawing clubs ... and we decided to be proactive, not whinge, and create our own "blockbuster".

What more natural rivalry could there be than between Melbourne (the city) and Sydney (the city).

So Demons v. Swans it was. A marquee match every season, played at night, on free to air TV. Build it up over time into a rivalry and a big drawing match.

Next thing you know Collingwood are playing Sydney in a marquee match, played at night, on free to air TV.

And we're back in twilight on Sundays.

Liberty, egality, fraternity! (and the guillotine!)

The page behind that link is coming up blank for me.

I've tried to find some info about Greenwood Capital but come up with zip:.

- I googled Greenwood Park -  a park close to or part of Deakin Uni

- I googled Greenwood Capital - a company in the US but no Chinese presence in sight.

- I googled Mr Fu Jianping - nothing.

- I tried Yellow Pages - nothing

It seems quite odd that there is nothing, no website, address, phone no, contacts etc.  What am I missing?

With Melbourne Victory signing with them, it has some eerie echoes of Energy Watch.  But Jackson is very thorough and would do decent due diligence.  Nonetheless I would feel more comfortable if google found something, somewhere...

Aaaaaand I'll see myself out...

On a serious note though this is only good news for the club.  Another major partner means more $$$$ in the coffers and we can strengthen the links we already have with our Asian neighbours.  Good stuff.

thanks pell,

I'm going to be a bit wet-blanketish here and ask if anyone knows anything about the credentials of 'Greenwood Capital'. I'll be happy to hear good news. It's just that I think we've experienced the odd 'short term' (shall we say) sponsor before (Kaspersky anyone?) Mr Google tells me about a 'Greenwood Capital' from (I think) the US and a 'Greenwoods Capital' based in China, and 'Greenwood Capital Burwood' only brings up the MFC web page article. I also wonder to what extent "an investment company ... featuring a diverse portfolio including property, health centres, Australian food exports, and cultural exchange" will engage us with the 'Chinese community? I hope they can, and I'm not complaining about the income either (though: How much? What form?) Nor am I complaining about the strides that Peter J and his team continue to make. And I like the Chinese New Year association and activities (will definitely try to be there - I'm a child of the fireworks-for-all age!) I just don't want any egg on anyone's faces with this.

well if its anything about greenbacks from the U$, they've dropped in value since signing on ?????

Tried Greenwoods Asset Management and came up with a some good info:

http://www.asiaasset.com/news/Greenwoods_PECH1703.aspx China’s Greenwoods Asset Management (Greenwoods AM) has become the country’s first private equity (PE) firm to invest into a domestic mutual fund business by purchasing a majority stake in mid-size asset manager Chang An Fund Management (CAFM).

Greenwoods AM is one of the top PE companies in China, and is engaged in a wide array of investments domestically and overseas, including A-shares, H-shares, red chips and American Depository Receipts (ADRs).

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-10-08/top-performing-golden-china-hedge-fund-exceeds-1-billion-assets "Golden China Fund, the best-performing hedge fund investing in the nation over 10 years, exceeded $1 billion in assets for the first time with bets on financial, real estate and technology stocks...The fund, managed by Greenwoods Asset Management Ltd. founder George Jiang.."

All good!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
