Previously provided clear advice.

Previously.

So the AFL knew beforehand. Then they told the Bulldogs the complete opposite.

I don't know how I keep feeling surprised by the AFL's [censored], but I do.

lol this is my point OD. I know how bad it is, but for some reason I'm continually surprised when they say and do idiotic and hypocritical things.

I have the feeling that the AFL are trying to provoke ASADA somehow. Or trying to work out where the line is so they can continually stand on it ... like going right to the edge of a cliff but not going over it.

But for what possible gain? It's too childish to suppose they just want to irk ASADA.

Are they trying to sniff the wind to see if they can ease their way out of WADA compliance?

They've got enough issues in the game without wasting time and energy on something that they could easily take the right stand on.

It doesn't make any sense.

The plan seems to be to poke the bear multiple times, get a reaction each time and them claim that the ASADA is picking on the AFL.  Pathetic really, but will probably work.

I think suggesting the AFL is somehow trying to pick a fight with ASADA is giving the AFL far too much credit. i think it's much more likely that the wrong advice was given to the Bulldogs through incompetence.

He's so BRAVE......   hope that 1.7 comforts him

Incompetence that probably covers it LDC.

I seriously doubt there is some grand master plan being played out here.

The fact that the AFL failed to have a plan for the EFC players being banned for an extended period and now this stuff up just proves their inabaility to grasp the situation.

Yep Incompetence.

$1.70 is still over paying the guy.

Surely the AFL could employ all 34 banned players as integrity officers!

ASADA rules allow them be employed in drug education.

But that could mean owning up to something.

It's all a misunderstanding Choke.

Early on in the saga, Dill received an email from ASADA that he wasn't quite happy with. He noticed there was a junk email button on the screen at the time, and as that's what he thought of the email he decided to click that button. Not realising however that all subsequent emails from that address would be automatically placed in the Junk email box that nobody ever looks at. So all subsequent emails from ASADA were never read until McD called to tell him they'd sent clear advice and suggested he check his Junk box. After 7 AFL technical experts had been called to assist, they located said email, and promptly advised the Dogs of the new information.

See, nobody's fault really.

As he clicked the junk email button he was heard muttering 'It's a sad story but not of much relevance to me', or words to that effect.

Essendon 34: Mark McVeigh reveals doping suspension has hurt his coaching dream

Hope they all sue the club to within an inch of its existence .

Right on cue bb!  From Chip: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/essendon-brace-for-the-first-player-lawsuits/news-story/e99e7a61aeb02a426b0cd9abca401114

'Essendon will be hit this month with the first compensation claims from footballers banned for doping, with the club, lawyers representing 34 banned players and the AFL determined to prevent the scandal from returning to court...It is understood that law firm Holding Redlich...is close to finalising some of their claims.

Holding Redlich, which has been engaged by management group Elite Sports Properties-TLA to advice its clients caught up in the doping scandal, is advising current Essendon stars Jobe Watson, Cale Hooker, Tom Bellchambers and Brent Stanton and retired players Mark McVeigh and Alex Browne...Dustin Fletcher...recently joined the Holding Redlich group despite having no affiliation with ESP-TLA.

'Chris Pollard, a lawyer who previously represented Essendon coaches in the doping scandal, is preparing compensation claims for young Bomber Dyson Heppell and St Kilda recruit Jake Carlisle'.

'A settlement of all claims would be welcomed by the AFL, which would almost certainly be pulled into any court action brought by the banned players'.

The only hope we ever had of learning the truth was for the compensation claims suit to get to court.  All would be faced with telling the truth or perjury.  Some people in high places would be in a real pickle if faced with those options.

This will settle out of court with Fort Knox type confidentiality clauses attached!

I hope Reimers sues McVeigh to within an inch of his existence for his slanderous comments at the start of the investigation.

He deserves "##### all" does McVeigh. Just another bozo I have to switch off when he comes on the tele.

Im gobsmacked to be honest how Jab Watcon could possibly continue at the club he is party to suing.

pass on idea to Ripper Rita :)

McDevitt appears before the Senate Committee:  He says:

"The tribunal accepted that Stephen Dank made plans to use thymosin beta-4 as part of Essendon's injection program. They also accepted that the players had consented to being injected with thymosin and that injections had occurred. Despite this, they were not comfortably concerned or satisfied that the injections had actually contained thymosin beta-4 because there were no adequate records kept and because Essendon failed to carry out lab analysis of the substances. The CAS panel openly disagreed." 'http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/essendon-doping-saga-afl-antidoping-panel-simply-got-it-wrong-says-asada-chief-20160304-gnakb9.html

McDevitt is a very impressive individual.  Almost the Lone Ranger as a voice against drug taking in sport.  Cudos to him.

EFC 'gentle' warning to Sheedy for this about the suspended players:  "It's forced upon them by an organisation obviously that's out of Europe, who don't really know a lot about AFL," Sheedy said..."Their job is really to get back and sort out Russia for the Olympics."  http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/essendon-chief-xavier-campbell-talks-to-kevin-sheedy-about-wada-comments-20160304-gnaeeo.html

That comment is right up there for ignorance and dumbness, with the excuses Beveridge made a few weeks ago.

  • GAMEDAY: Hawthorn

It’s game day and the Demons are chasing a fourth straight win as we take on the high flying Hawks at the G. After decades of being tormented by the Hawks the Dees will be keen to extend their 7 year dominance over Hawthorn.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
