Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Roos has indicated that Oscar MacDonald is in the mix for GWS. Maybe Garland or Dunn are under a cloud for GWS?

Isn't it more to the point that he's not ruling anyone out 3 days before match committee ?

Have seen a few teams with Kennedy, Harmes, Kent and Garlett all in the same team. Too many forward pockets for mine. Ditch one of them (Not Garlett) and add another midfielder. For the people that say they can rotate through the midfield...You don't honestly believe that do you? None of them have the fitness base for it.

But that is why they 'rotate' through the midfield.  Spend the majority up forward and then spend 5 minutes in the guts.  Garlett, in particular, was given a few centre bounces during the NAB Cup.

I do agree, however, that only 3 of the above may be picked to play on Saturday with the other (in my opinion it will be Harmes) being VERY stiff to miss.

I wouldn't think that Harmes is a small forward in the mould of Garlett; I would put him in the same category as Kent - a high half-forward, even wingman.  Kennedy too for that matter spent plenty of time up the ground in the NAB and at Collingwood.

I believe Roos was asked specifically about Oscar McDonald as there was a match report from the weekend that had him listed in the best.  I would be very surprised to see him lining up on the weekend.

Ok, my last version of the R1 team.

B: Jetta - Dunn - Garland
HB:Vince- T. McDonald - Salem
C: Brayshaw - Tyson - Oliver
HF: Kent - Watts - VandenBerg
F: Garlett - Hogan - Harmes
Foll: Gawn - N.Jones - Viney
I/C: Bugg - Kennedy - M. Jones - Pedersen

Back 6 and front 6 pick themselves to my mind. Vince and Salem to launch off the HB line. Forward setup with a few very mobile talls dragging their defensive opponents all over the track. Pedersen over Frost as I feel he offers a bit more at this stage by way of scoring power. M. Jones to get a run. Do not think Lumumba is right yet and needs one more run. Midfield to take another step forward this season right from the first bounce. One thing that I do like is when Garlett gets a few minutes in the center. he is so quick in there and seems to flash in and out.

I feel this is a game we can win but we will need to be right 'on' from the very first.

Dees by 2 goals.

I like this team a lot The only possible question mark might be M Jones, And Van der things fitness . Not sure Lamumba has done enough last week at Casey, but would not be surprised at all to see him sneak in ahead of possibly.. Matt Jones! Frost also in Mix!

Dees to smash Greater Western Shizen by 5 goals and as an added bonus... Scully to be polaxed by Clarry Choo Choo!

Brilliant.  Spelling his actual name takes less letters, yet picket does it the hard way.

Yeah well, life has been hard, so a little "Literary" leeway and touch of alacrity doesn't go astray!

GO DEES !

I would too. But I can't see Jay Clark saying Oscar was a chance if it wasn't somewhat true. Then Roos leaving the window open.

And if we want to play more zone defending and intercept marking then Oscar could well be a chance. He has height and endurance as an advantage over Dunn, even if he also has several weaknesses.

I can't see it, but I expect the footy department will be keen on him during the year.

We can't repeat the mistakes of the past by throwing out experience for youth that aren't ready, but at the same time if we want to win a flag we are going to need to develop some development time put in to quality youth. We've got the gun young midfielders who will get chances, we have to afford those same chances to other high ceiling types, particularly young talls and you speedy or skillful outsiders.

Anybody else feel like Matt Jones deserves a run before Lumumba?

Definitely. Although I'm worried about Matt Jones coming off a concussion when he's seemingly found some composure for the first time in about 24 months and then hasn't had another hit out to settle himself.

Also Lumumba gives us the half back option, to let Bugg or Vince tag. Although the counter to that is Matt Jones played well as a defensive forward last year.

I guess my answer is yes, but it depends how they want to use them. I think we pick our best players and look at GWS' best players and work out what fringe players we need to fill roles to complement the best group.

No, I think you've decided on Grimes and ignore any event that contradicts your negative fixed viewpoint on him, while highlighting any event that supports your negative fixed viewpoint on him. I.e. highlight one dropped mark, while ignoring the six marks he took.

Perhaps the coaches also have concerns re Grimes being best 22 judging by his omission.

Your take ?

You'll find I never claimed he was best 22 at present. I object to hard red lines being drawn through players as to their potential to improve and contribute.

Where was the "hard red line" ?

I merely gave an observation that his talent, or lack thereof, would render him out of our best 22.

Seemingly, the coaches agree.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
