can someone explain?

ess lose 12 can pickup 10 = net loss of 2

port lose 2 no pickup players = net loss of 2

yet port claim they are 1 worse off than ess

Essendon is also allowed to promote their entire rookie list.

yeah, i know, but there are still restrictions for everybody on total list size and total playable size

if ess promote >2 rookies and recruit 10 top-ups then surely a top-up has to go on the rookie list?

I believe Essendon are allowed to promote 5 of their six rookies (they have two category B rookies) as well as adding up to 10 players. PA will promote 2 rookies, leaving them one player short of Essendon.

They would do well to appoint 'Action Jackson' to pull them into some semblance of respectability.

For the benefit of the competition, I would be open to him leaving the MFC.

Yeah.....might be good to have a "Melbourne" at the helm ;)

Happy to agree but only if you mean Wayne Jackson or, at a pinch, Mark Jackson. (Or there again, maybe not for Mark).

Old Whacko Jacko would slot straight in.

Really bothers me that there is almost a celebration of the players that are being signed as top up players, in my opinion the top ups should not be selected ahead of any of the remaining listed players and only used in the case of injuries, remembering that this situation has come about as a punishment, and really it's just becoming a case of minimizing the damage.

Bring back Wayne, and it will put a bit more humour back into Brownlow night....  "Essendon ...Blake Carraa-chella... 1 vote"

I thought this thread would be about picking Essendon's list apart like a carcass.

I'd be in Hurley's ear right now trying to lure him to the MFC.

Of course some of our more sanctimonious supporters won't want a "drug cheat" at the club, but I'm far more interested in trying to win a flag.

To avoid starting another thread, the article on the AFL website is a reminder that several clubs are sniffing out Hurleys manager.

Shite I hope we're one of them.

This is where the Goodwin factor will come in, but more importantly having a strong and exciting 2016.  Hope we pillage their list and take their talent.

Don't want to start a new thread about these scum, but had to post my disgust WRT Anzac day.

After having their rights to the day questioned, their response:

"“Everyone understands this game is about Essendon and Collingwood. It’s why the game is played, it’s the clubs that have driven it for so long."

I always thought it was meant to be about remembering the diggers

Demonlanders shudder with fear that if the Demons are a basket case, then good players will want to leave. Let's hope by the end of the year Essendrug is such a basket case that that applies to their good players too - regardless of where the players actually go.

I had no info at the time, but Mark Harvey has told a good source that Melbourne are right into Hurley.

Now I know a lot of clubs would be, but Melbourne was specifically mentioned. The only club mentioned.

Who knows ?  He'll probably stay, but he might want a fresh start and at 24-25 he might not see a flag at Essendon.  Plenty of his mates have moved on, including Melksham.  And he'll also be familiar with Goodwin.

I hope we go hard.  Hogan up front, Hurley down back with that developing midfield could be very exciting.

I'm sure the Hawks and Pies, etc. will be just as keen.

Did that really say that? I'd hope not because that's a seriously repugnant perspective on what Anzac day's all about.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
