Was never a fan of The Eagles, but sad none-the-less... another to pass on today was Dallas Taylor, the drummer for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young who died of unknown causes aged 66.

too many going too soon ( Eagles never did it for me either)

If there are any Eagles fans out there, then you'll be devestated to learn that Glenn Frey has also passed away at the age of 67. Bowie, Rickman and now Frey. 2016 has been a sad year so far...

Was shattered yesterday to hear about the passing of Glen Frey. The Eagles - my all time favourite band. RIP.

Sad times. All made contributions, like them or not, and all missed. Of the musicians, Bowie's the one who was more influential and had by far the more substantial output, but Frey was no slouch as a more traditional songwriter, which is no mean feat in itself. Alan Rickman - carved out his own distinctive niche.

I met Alan Rickman (charming) and Bowie briefly (charming, but fey and distant). I saw Bowie live a couple of times (late 70's, early 90's) and was just blown away on both occasions. He was the genuine article, and I'd be surprised if we see his shapeshifting like again.

And I've just read that Dale Griffin (drummer from Mott the Hoople) died a couple of days ago. Not quite so famous, but 'All the Young Dudes' (written for them by Bowie) was a minor anthem in its day. 67 and Alzheimers, FFS.

Mott The Hoople were a great band of the early 70's. A guy i knew in the 80's had all their albums.

Ian Hunter a great front man...

And as I mentioned earlier, the drummer from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Dallas Taylor died the same day as Frey.

Speaking of Mott the Hoople, the guitarist in the band I moved to Sydney to become a part of, was the first cousin of their guitarist Mick Ralphs... he was better known for his work in Bad Company.  I loved Mott the Hoople.

Bowie was enormously talented yet he played it down ... incredibly intelligent and his music reflected his personality.

I liked his role in "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" too - a powerful performance. He was a man for all seasons.

One of my favourite Bowie songs ... David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust

RIP

Me too. And Ian Hunter. I still have at least one Hoople album and several of Hunter's on the shelves somewhere but since I tend to prefer listening to music rather than scratches and pops and clicks I haven't played them in years. It doesn't seem to change how good they were in memory though.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
