She has no eye for talent and regurgitates an amalgamation of what she has heard from recruiters & talent managers.

She chose 5 players at the start of 2007 to write a book on.

2 - Cotchin

9 - McEvoy

11 - Veszpremi

12 - Rioli

13 - Ebert

Now I'm sure they were all pretty highly rated at the start of the season, but that's not bad going.

Whether she's using her own eye or collating the knowledge of others doesn't bother me. If her top 30 is a group think of the collective knowledge of a bunch of recruiters then maybe it's more reliable than any one persons opinion. One of the weaknesses of the draft is that players go ahead of the order if 1 club has a massive opinion of them.

Milera ahead of Parish ?

The Quayle possibly risks being a goose.

Start of paragraph four: "This isn't a mock draft "

what am i missing..

I guess it's all interesting at this time of the year with not much else to talk about.

The mock drafts don't really mean much but I would think both Twomey and Quayle have the inside knowledge to get close to the mark. More contacts than a good eye for talent...

Whichever way things go I'm thinking we will have a few good kids ready to kick off training in a couple of weeks. We haven't done too bad since Roos has been around. Tyson/Salem, Brayshaw/Petracca, not to mention a few other kids who have shown a bit...

edit: yes I know Tyson wasn't drafted by us but it was part of a strategy that had us pick up Salem.

EQ's list is her opinion of 'quality'...I think of it as her view of 'best available'.

Emma watches a great deal of underage football so her opinion on quality is worth noting.

Her mock draft in a week, is predicted order of players which is where club/recruiter research comes in...club's view of 'best available'/'needs'

It will be interesting to compare the two.

She had Yarran and Watts top 2 in 2008, not concerned about her ranking of Parish.

i have to admit it is concerning that EQ think Parish is the 14th best talent (best available) in this draft and we may take him with 3.

I have no clue about how good these kids are but the one thing I have noticed is that Parish is not often referred to as hard/tough or massively competitive like a lot of the others in the top 14. also his slight frame has been highlighted. I know we cant have a team of Vineys but these outisde players seem riskier than the Brayshaws of the world.

tough choice! it would be fascinating to know if the Dees already knew who we would take at 3 when we traded for it or the plan was just to have 2 top picks

So you consider her a greater authority than our recruiting panel ?

14th includes academy players

if you include academy players in draft our first pick won't be 3. will be 5 or 6

Id still have Parish a tad higher than she has...but it's all rather moot really. Our recruiters will place them as they see warranted.

So you consider her a greater authority than our recruiting panel ?

of course not. I just take her opinion into account

Please give us your top 20 then with summary. I'll be fascinated. I'm sure others will too.

Thanks

We haven't drafted him yet...

And we may not, we may take Curnow at P3.

But whatever we do I won't lose a nanoseconds sleep over Emma's ratings.

And nor should you, but she knows far more about the potential draftees than you and I.

And silence in response. Bit over ppl in this thread saying this person and that person rubbish but not coming up with their own preferred draft sources.

And I've never suggested otherwise.

Fair enough.

Just comes across like you're putting down all these people's opinions, people who know far more than us, without providing any reasoning for it.

I'm a bit over people clearly not getting sarcasm on here. Machsy had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek with his response.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
