he was well held after half time but some very important clearances, i personally feel 23 touches, 15 contested and 7 clearances or whatever it was should get him right in the mix for the rising star nod

He was our most important player today...

...a bit quiet in the 2nd half (spent some time on the bench and at HF) but he & Kennedy are the ones that got things rolling again in the last Q.

So Michael Voss like it's not funny!

Just gets his hands free every time. He has time that others dream of. I think the comparisons to Voss are quite apt, but there's quite a bit of similarity between he and Cripps. Our bloke is just doing it a lot earlier and has that quick burst of speed that Cripps doesn't have.

Ok I'll say it. When Nathan Jones went off for a breather in the first quarter and Oliver was on in his place, there was no loss in terms of output and effort with Oliver in harness. He was pretty bloody decent in his first stint.

And nobody would be happier about that than Jonesy himself.

wow he looks like Jordie but plays a million times better. What a debut. Love his work rate and intensity. Jonsey must be rapt he now has help with viney, vince, gus and now this kid coming through.

11 touches in the second quarter was a great way to make a statement.  Having first hands on our first three goals in the final quarter when we were fighting back from a 20 point deficit?  That was just priceless.

I admit I was wrong on this front.  I was a big fan of Parish, and while he will clearly be a player, Oliver has come on beautifully and shown he already has what it takes.  Amazing bit of drafting.

How good was his contested mark against a more senior and bigger Callan Ward :roos:

Gus Brayshaw and Hogan last year, Oliver and Petracca and even Weeds at some point should have an impact this year

good signs

Sorry I shouldn't do this but been watching Parsh and he has butcherd the ball and looks bit overawed..

We nailed this.

We nailed this.

I can't stress this enough, Melbourne taking Oliver at pick 4 truly is remarkable.

In years gone by we would have just followed the "experts" and taken Parish (Scully, Trengove, Morton and Toumpas) but somehow without playing a game our recruiting team (along with some of us on here) were able to see the talent he has.

i was huge on Parish and still firmly believe he'll be a very good player but my god, Oliver is something else!

Honestly guys..don't want to toot my own here but I have a pretty good eye for talent and normally call whose going to turn out to be an elite player and nail them more often than not.

Clayton Oliver will be a star. Without a doubt. I have never seen a debutant coming into a fast paced afl game and having the awareness and aggression to match it with seasoned veterans. His ability to shrug players off tackling him to get his arms free to fire out a handballl is ridiculous. It's extraordinary. The only other young players I have seen do this is Patrick Cripps. Both of these guys will be A grade elite stars of the future. We absolutely nailed this pick to a tee. GO DEES

What I find interesting is that Roos knew we to win the ball out of the centre at the start of the last quarter and start scoring, he had enough confidence to put oliver into that pressure situation, and that he came through for the team. He is something special.

I never ever wavered from this Kid EVER!

Thank Christmas we have drafted a potential superstar with Deft Hands!! A rarity now and as I have said Greg Williams like but with that electric BURST of speed

Darcy Who??? Another Cale Morton!

Parish 25 possies today in a losing team. Tidy start.

Oliver is a freak and if there is a better player in his draft year he'll be extraordinary.
