I like that this is the second year a young Dees mid has been under scrutiny for being hard as regards new rules/interpretations. Viney bump Mark II

Trenners also got done a few years ago for a fantastic tackle on Dangerfield

What got me on the Trenners incident (and now Oliver's) is that it was ok right up until the time he did the tackle and from that day on it wasn't.

It seems to me the AFL plays catch up. "that was bad and we'll suspend you and from here on in anyone who does it gets suspended".

I have no problem with what Oliver did being paraded to all clubs and say " if you sling , irrespective of hands free or not, irrespective of injury or not - then there is a danger of injury and we will cite these incidents".From today on - not acceptable. However unless the clubs have already been informed of this then this is a precedent setting suspension.

( the sad part is , that I knew it would be looked at and possible of a suspension fine as the AFL has a history of suspending first and setting the ground rules around the action second)

Is it paranoia if they actually are out to get you?

They do love their 'test cases' to be tried on the 'lesser clubs'.   Imagine had any of those unprecedented cases been against a Collingwood player - just would not have happened.

If my memory serves me correctly, our Allen Jakovich was the one and only player ever suspended for wrestling, and that in a practice match.

Oliver ACCEPTS sanction

Theres probably a reason  but I just dont like this rubbish. What did he ACTUALLY do wrong ?  sfa !!!

Agree.  That for a change they didn't suspend first and announce policy later is one small positive in this.

Gees mfc

who is responsible for issuing player numbers at the club???

Do do they understand the anxiety spike that occurs when I see a red head in number 13 grabbing the ball in the middle!!!

I DGAF what number he wears as long as he keeps playing the way he is, he is a serious chance at rising star

Was fantastic around the contest again.

He needs to learn to stay down more as a forward and crumb, he won't be taking pack marks from out of position too often (he might from a nice sit!).

Plus cramping (and spewing up) after 71% TOG is a worry as well.

His spot in round 1 will be determined mainly by whether the coaches think he has the fitness. Form wise he's done enough already

Looks very very good. And I have found out over the years that most of the time, first impressions are correct. Looks a real bull around the ball.

Oliver is an absolute gun.i look forward to Round One when he will be in the team!

Geez, in a few years time, these guys will be a headache for opposition. Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Petracca, who to tag?

No its not.

He was the main positive out of today. 9 contested possessions, showed he can take a mark and most importantly looks so comfortable at afl level on the ball or smashing someone is a tackle.

If he stays fit he will play 15 games plus.

Wont be long til he has the best handball in the team

I mean only in terms of his readiness for AFL. Long term it was great to see a kid push himself to exhaustion.

He's got the fitness to run out 70% of a shortened practice match against mainly a 2nds side.

How is that not of some concern to whether he's ready to take on a super fit GWS midfield.

He will be a player Clarrie, personally I think he would be given more time in the magoos. We shouldn't need a newly drafted player in the first game of the season. Let him get the fitness up and keep assessing each week.

Yes and no. If he is ready and best 22, he plays. Much like Brayshaw did last year.

Love this kid. Kicking also isn't as bad as some reports suggested. Lock him in for Round 1.

He's had less than one pre season & it was a 30 degree day. It's hardly a concern. I'd say it's a good sign he can get that much out of himself already when you take into account he's probably only trained for 12 weeks as a pro.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
