Wtf.. Where did I make that allusion?

Sorry, to clarify, that wasn't intended as a counter to what you said, rather just a continuation of the conversation.

Oliver shone in the strong GVFL senior competition in 2014 as a 16/17 year old.

He played 11 games in the midfield, kicked 9 goals and was named in the best on 6 occasions. He played 6 of the 11 games as a 16 year old - against men.

He's from Echuca, where his Father also played football and his Mother netball. Todd Viney lived in Echuca for years and I suspect he knows a great deal about Oliver and his pedigree. Maybe he doesn't want to let another Ollie slip. And he seems to play in a very similar fashion, although he has better pace and sideways movement.

Fyfe is 190cm

Parish is 180cm

No comparison.

I'm concerned that parish isn't big enough for today's midfield

I've been convinced that Oliver is the best choice for us at 3, but what you said above is just silly.

180cm is perfectly fine.

We're really having this conversation, again?

Mitchell, Gaff, Prestia, Hannebery, Murphy, Steven, Jones, Adams, Hill, Wingard, Shiel, Montagna, Coniglio and Viney.

The quickest way to assemble a list of 'undersized' midfielders is to look at the Brownlow Medal count.

I'm not saying that being shorter makes someone a better player, but if you're imagining that being around 180cm makes you inadequate for the midfield, you're a mile off the mark.

As for Clayton Oliver, I'm warming to him solely on his resemblance to Brienne of Tarth.

I say these things to remind myself that I (and most of everyone else) have no idea what the detailed merits of each player are, and will trust pilot to fly the plane.

My preference list for the 3/7 combo is still some arrangement of Francis/Parish/Weideman.

I wasn't referring to their height, I was referring to their build.

Fyfe started out as just skin and bones, Parish is very light too.

Just because Parish is 10cms shorter than Fyfe doesn't mean there isn't potential for him to put on a heap of muscle just like Fyfe has.

Don't get me started on the height of midfielders either, there are plenty of current 'small' mids who are elite.

Have a look at who the recruiters have picked up in the last couple of drafts.

Our TOP 10 picks have all been over 183 cm and over 80 kgs. Brayshaw, Pettracca, Salem

There is a pattern here and I cant see them breaking this.

Roos wants big bodied tall mids and thats exactly what we will get. Parish is out of the picture.

Or they were the players they rated the highest regardless of their height? 2-3cm isn't going to get someone crossed off the list if they're talented enough.

I love Demonland. We all can't wait for draft day so Demonland helps us out by speeding things up and enters Tuesday a little early. Thanks Demonland!

Just had a look.

Oliver responds to user comments himself, mainly about his appearance. Clearly doesn't take himself too seriously. A good quality to have.

Passing up on a kid (Parish) who has been in the All Australian side twice, both as a bottom age and a top age. Has won or been nominated for virtually every award a junior footballer can win, or be nominated for. Excellent skills, decision making, calmness, attack, and hunger. Plays both inside and out. Averaged 129 SC points this season, if you value that. Can kick goals, can hit targets inside 50, does bring others into the game and is described by all as a NATURAL footballer. Something we have been crying out for for decades. If we pass up on Parish fine, but i hope we bloody know what we are doing if we do.

Happy to be held accountable on here if Parish succeeds/fails.

To be fair if we pass him up for Oliver he's got - the Morrish medal, a good package of skills, decision making, attack etc. Good SC scores. Certainly can kick goals and hit targets. And is undoubtedly a natural footballer.

i know. But Parish has been elite in the TAC cup for two years now. Oliver, has popped up mid year.

To be honest i'd be happy with either, just would kill me if we missed on Parish and he ends up being AFL elite.

That being said, my mate from the falcons reckons that Matheson is the smoky of the draft and could slip late. Said he is a weapon and Fyfe like. When he played as 23rd man in the VFL he was only allowed to play half a game (their ruling) and had 17 disposals and 11 centre clearances playing as a 17 year old in the guts. BEAST.

I was at the game he played Geelong vfl against box hill, was just about Geelong's best in a poor performance. Surprised he has slipped out of so many top 10s.

Agree. I would have been happy to go with Parish and Mathieson to get a good mix of midfield talent with 4 AAs between them.

I wonder if the reluctance to pick Parish has to do with the nightmares endured in the wake of the decision to take Toumpas ahead of Wines three years ago.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
