In football we expect too much out of young players, our expectations have been a bit high.

Kids need time to develop, now Watts is maturing he is playing the football we expect him to.

Tom Hawkins was much the same, and they were both great junior footballers.

I'd take him ahead of Gibbs, Kreuzer and Scully if I was starting a new club from scratch. For someone that's been maligned so much, he's actually turning into a decent player. Something has clicked.

In the course of 100 games he's probably dropped hid head more than a few times but he appears more equipped than ever to make something out of his career.

The first of second qtr the side step run into fitty, he missed the shot but he's taking the game on like he should.

Not your usual Jack Watts thread. He has been fantastic the last 5 or 6 weeks. He has chased and tackled along with his usual high efficiency with the ball. I was starting to lose faith with him but he has been fantastic the last few weeks.

I haven't seen the games so that is great to hear. I listened to the radio after a friend sent me a (go dees) text, telling me the game was on. put radio straight on to here we were in front.

Said before the Queens birthday game I just want to see a tough, full body tackle from Watts, as I couldn't remember one.

That day, he nailed Varcoe a beauty and he has been good ever since. Laid another good tackle today. I have given up on him being a tough hard player, but when it is his turn I expect him to go and I expect strong tackles, something we are starting to see from him

My pleasure fellas (link providing)...... Trying not to get too carried away (like I said our players did after each win so far this year), but that was the best MFC interview I'd heard for a long time.

If you haven't yet please do listen to it, gives me much more hope than anything Roosy could say (not having a go at Roos, but it's really up to the players now imo given the resources & how this club is being run by PJ).

AD, I've watched this player since day one...

He drove me mad, but then I worked him out - a finisher, cool as, lightning fast and skilled.

Loved it when Watts said he saw his performances in the reviews and didn't understand why he didn't chase hard or had lack of effort.

It's great that he has recognised his own faults and is working on them.

The first step to fix a problem is admitting u have one.

He has done that and is well on his way to fixing it.

Every thread needs an iconaclast. I thought Watts had been poor the past few weeks. Under the radar for a couple and then terribly slow against the Saints when he finally got a fair chunk of it. And in general, I've never subscribed to those talking up his elite kicking, most of it slow, undamaging chip passes over short distances and not actually that stand-out skills-wise anyway with plenty of turnovers over the course . . .

Watts was great today. Maturity, confidence and composure. I think his best game in my mind. I used to worry that he wasn't being played in a single position to learn, develop and impose himself. I'm happy now that we may have a genuine allrounder or in AFL parlance, utility. Keep it up Jack.

We all know he can kick well, but I have been impressed by his handball under pressure in the past couple of months. May not hit the target always but plays the percentages well in tight spaces. If he can't hit the target it is a contested ball at worst.

Watts had such freedom today. Was an actual utility, played everywhere. Showed his composure, showed his speed. He seems to try for a lot of tackles he doesn't get credit for. He definitely Out-Pendleburied Pendlebury

Watts gets tackled. Holding the ball. Opposition jeer. Our own DH supporters criticise him with "Bloody hell Watts your hopeless"....

The first bit of courage/brains needed is actually from us supporters to accept the 1 out of 5 holding-the-ball from him.

The flip side is that the 4 out of 5 burst-throughs far out-weigh any downside from the 20% outcome.

Great interview, great game, great bloke. Could have easily walked 2 seasons ago, but wanted to stay and repay faith. If only Howe had same integrity.

On that note, I've thought Howe has been solid and invested the past few weeks with his move down back. A lot of upside.
