POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 16

Featured Replies

We've played better on several occasions this and last season and lost so I'm taking the win, very much Sydney 04 & early 05 in our display today ugly as but never in danger although playing like that you and the opposition are never far away.

Liking Harmes and good to see Dawes and Howe putting in decent displays, Big Maxy developing week by week and a big positive in the 2nd half of the year.

JKH is almost at the cross roads, I know it's only 2nd year but he tends to cruise a lot and really lacks a solid work ethic to get the best out of himself.

Here is exhibit A of those posters who are disappointed when we win. So sorry Melbourne decided to disappoint you with the 4 points today mate.

Never disappointed to win but geez it was horrible to watch and would have been worse had we lost.

So u think on this form we will beat saints then?

And given the same circumstances of today's match the saints will let us kick one goal after half time if we r in a similar situation?

Very lucky to get the win and it beats losing again but it was horrific to watch.

Beamer and Colin Sylvia at the Chairman's lunch today.

Spoke to Colin, he has done a shoulder and it is all over for this year. Hope to play a few more years in the lower leagues in Melbourne.

Spoke to JT in the lift on the way out and he hopes to be running in about a week and says the foot feels fine. Hopes to be ready for Pre Season and available first game next season.

He is a bit taller than I thought, when you stand next to him.

For all the crud we've given them, and in some instances for good reason, it's nice to see them still welcome back at the club and also willing to come back as well.

He was never that good. Slow and one dimensional. Unreliable down back and not clean enough. Jamie Bennell 2.0 but without the pace. Only in the side because of Kent.

Nothing like Bennell. Bennell had speed and no skills, JKH has skills but doesn't have the speed. His second year hasn't been great, but he has had an injury riddled year, so happy for him to have another year or two and see if he can get going again.

My lord we need a Centre Half Forward who can mark.,

We look spent.. Jones missed characteristic snaps.. And even sprayed one running in from 50.. Thank gawd for Max's 3rd quarter! Once again if we can kick straight we'd win by another 6 goals...

Also when was the last time we had teo fwds kick 30 plus in a year?

Hunt will be a chance to replace JKH next week

Is Hunt a rookie tho?

We showed a month ago we could beat the Saints.

The game was ugly, won't argue that, but as Roos said in his presser a win today shows that we already have more wins than last year and that the improvement is evident in that. We are, and even before today's win, a chance to roll the Saints next Sunday.

Yes we can easily beat the Saints.

And a 24 point win in a very low scoring game is not luck at all.

FMD!! This thread is bitterer than me!! We won the [censored] game!! FFS!!

Be that as it may.. It was a [censored] house game to watch..

I'm not concerned about JKH. He has had a couple of injuries and has been interrupted, unable to find consistency. In addition, he hasn't had the opportunity to gel with his team mates RE his role in the side. I think he will come good with time.

meh!

i'll take the 4 points though

I thought falling down at half forward today was a problem and it has been all year really. Hope the team can address this somehow....

It's refreshing to be brought down to someone else's level for a change. Mixed emoticons.

I can't believe it. In Rounds 5-7 we had the final score of 50 in 3 consecutive weeks, now we've had 3 weeks in a row of scoring 60.

Lets hope we can keep the Jcurve going up....

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
