Loved the commentary on Ch7, he is a wildebeest! 😄

Brian Taylor probably thinks a wildebeest is a wild beast...

Maybe my language was harsh but if you watched Gawn live today you’d see a guy who managed his way around the ground, often content to man O’Brien away from the play rather than sprinting back to plug the backline or making sure he’s the long down the line target.

Can argue it’s smart as a veteran ruck doing it alone but do you want a captain having to manage his work load? Even playing with Grundy has been about managing him through the season.

Viney is busting it for every minute he’s out there

I watched Gawn live today and I felt he needed to take more contested marks, but completely dominated at stoppage.

We need Grundy to manage him though. And Max knew this mhimself, hence his push to get Brodie to the club in the first place.

And Jack is bursting for every minute he's out there, but it wasn't a flawless game either. Brodie Smith kicked his goal, because Jack basically let him wander off unattended after Jack had worked brilliantly to get it over the boundary for a stoppage.

You're totally off on Max here though.

We need a 'Jack Viney made me fly' thread for somersaulting Simpkin like a pancake.

I did have a chuckle when Viney came off with the blood rule after a cut on his face and Gerard Healey commentated that the only surprising thing was that it was Viney's blood and not his opponent's!

He’s been outstanding since Clarry went down. Bleeds red and blue, heart and soul player.

Haha well played Skuit! Flew into next week.

Couldn’t agree more.  Goes at 100% all the time without hesitation. Also had some nice sidesteps to evade yesterday and kicked in his right foot under pressure.  Love him in the team.  Right in the heat of the kitchen.

I love his leadship these day.  When he first shared the captaincy with Jones (and Gawn?) I don't think he was quite ready.  If Gawn were to retire tomorrow, I'd name Jack sole captain in a red and blue heartbeat.

Absolutely 100%

This one made me wonder how long and hard the MRO looked at it trying to invent a charge, only to realise all he did was stand up.

They do love inventing new rulings against us (MFCSS).

To be honest it surprised me as well. Ie the fact that Dwayno got something right for once.

Someone complained this week about Viney's contract extension (no names, but you could probably guess who), partially on the basis of Jack nursing a long-term shoulder injury. Correlation doesn't equal causation and all that, but I've noticed that when our vice cops an early stinger it seems to activate beast mode. Come at him at your own peril. Long live this thread.

God I love this man. He's emblematic of the red and blue!

Just bringing this to the forefront again:

I can imagine some in the media may have got a polite STFU from opposition teams about making any further comments on Jack.

You don't want to make him angry or give him a point to prove. The man is not human.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
