Agree, although he strikes me as someone who will try and find his way to Geelong, particularly if they miss out on Dangerfield.

Let's get serious Demonland. It's time for a stand alone Dion Prestia megathread.

WIth the 130 (?) page dangerfield threat not getting us over the line last year, obviously we just need to hit bigger page numbers on a Prestia thread!

Well if he came to us, i'd personally drive him down there and back every time he wanted. Solved. Next.

Would be interesting to see how we fit all these inside mids into the team.

We're a contested ball team. It's perfect. We just need a bit of outside run and then we're building a similar type of team to Roos' 2005 premiership team.

Exactly, he walks straight into the team alongside our best players in Hogan, Jones and Vince.

I hold high hopes for Gus Brayshaw too. In two years, he could be an absolute star. Just needs to get more of it. If he starts to get 25-30 possessions a game, he is going to be one of the most damaging players in the comp. Such a good decision maker, with great skills. And we haven't even seen Petracca in a Melbourne jumper yet. How exciting!

Cut White and you'll wind up getting another rookie on the same money - you have to fill the list. He'll stay. Jamar's retirement would free up some money, but the salary cap is certainly an issue. Confident it will be sorted.

Isn't the cap growing for the next couple of years? Or was that just this year? rpfc tends to know these details. Do you know, mate, or does anyone else?

Just to note regarding any possible compensation through the loss of Garland, Roosy was on SEN this afternoon and made note of hoping to be big players in FA this post season, not just leaving it to the big clubs as they continue to get bigger.

I wonder what kind of FA names are even still possibilities that would be valued in our favour, compared to the value of potential Garland compensation should he choose to move on.

I think you'll find this is a clever bit of misdirection from Roosy.

I hear that Dion will indeed use the 'safe workplace environment' clause to get to us. If it happens, that'll be one back for Clark last year.

This Prestia rumour is gaining plenty of traction without much to back it up really. Plenty of 'I hear' and 'I was told'... it's all pointing to a free agency period where we don't get Prestia and everyone cracks it after they were convinced based on not much.

MFCSS, WB.

Well, both actually. He's telling us that the MFC is targeting players in the FA pool, yet in fact the MFC'll be looking somewhere else.

What's the 'safe workplace environment' clause in this case AF?

No ones claiming anything illegal occurred during there training/work time or at a GC official venue.

Not really mate, and I didn't mean to single your post out as plenty of others have done it before you. But this site is terrific with off hand comments like 'I hear this and that' and then everybody is all over it and expecting the player to make the switch.

There has been nothing about Prestia and, with the impending departures of Dixon and Bennell, it makes no sense for GC to let him go, and the unsafe workplace clause is a huge stretch.

Don't get me wrong - I'd love to get him in our midfield, and Melbourne supporters love to pine after current players who supported us as kids, but Prestia becoming a Demon this year is not something I'd get my hopes up for.

* As a side note, I'd be stoked to be proven wrong.

Unfortunately, I think Cross has reached the end of a sterling playing career. His reading of the play gets him to the right position to intercept but he can't tag any more because he can't keep up and his disposal has significantly deteriorated. To keep him as a player because of his professional training standards is unnecessary. If he's that important in that role he can join the coaching panel.

'To keep him as a player because of his professional training standards in unnecessary"

Beg to disagree!

Cross for all but one or two games has been OUTSTANDING!

I WOULD KEEP HIM FOR HIS TRAINING STANDARDS ALONE!

Fact is we have so many lazy, incompetent, overpaid, unprofessional footballers, that we NEED him for another year at least!

He is the last one in line for the bullet!

Let's revisit this in six months time, mate. Reckon we'll get our man this time.

Unless you're pulling the [censored] of course.

Well, whether there is a clause or not, the claim would be that with the drug culture up there, the club has been in breach of providing a safe work environment. It's thin I admit, but we shall see.

If he's going to use an unsafe workplace clause to get away from GCS I'd be more worried about a stack of our guys doing the same to us after the tripe we've seen over the years. Unsafe, unloved and unco.

Prestia and Trent Mckenzie in for picks 5 and 23.

Ballwinner to midfield and a 60metre quarterback to the half back or wing position.

Thoughts??

Prefer Smith or Gorringe in that deal with Prestia. We need another ruck and key forward.

Dawes would not but I am not so sure about Howe

needs basis

suns need leaders, maturity, & level headed-ness. onfield/offield leaders. Dawes would help then to get that boat pointed the right way round.

Howe would be handier to the Lions or the Giants, for the same reasons.

I hope we get him. He's a real emerging talent and he's had the opportunity to learn a bit from the master.

I had an emerging talent just a couple of weeks back... new girl around the corner. that did it.

brought out the worst in moi.

but then read about this flogging of a dead horse, & alas, what a waste.

What MFC needs to do now, after last weeks debacle, is look at who they should take at number 1 draft pick

Perhaps we need an early draft thread

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
