No, what I believe he's saying is that the 4 players you bring in to replace the 8 that you delist could be paid more. You could also throw more at the ones you want/need to stick around - T Mac, Track etc.

Love watching Howe take the big grabs but he has been very disappointing. Most of these type will be gone next year, lets see what we can get and move on.

I can't understand why Jamar isn't in the team. He's got his flaws around the ground, but he's one of the best ruckman in the league and he's a pretty good mark. At the very least, he makes us competitive in the centre square and gives our midfield a chance. I know we need to give Spencer a chance, but the only thing he has over Jamar is his tackling and his age. Jamar beats him in every other area (including the ability to play as an extra forward if needed)

Gawn still doesn't seem ready (will he ever be ready?), so we need to bring Jamar back and cut our losses with Spencer. Rotating Jamar and Pedersen in the centre square is the first step to us being competitive.

My recommendation would be to get the team back to our best 22 ASAP, rather than [censored]-farting around with the deckchairs. That means Jamar and Hogan are definite ins, and Jetta/Viney are in, if fit. It also means Stretch needs to go back to the VFL.

IN: Jamar, Hogan, Jetta (if fit), Viney (if fit)

OUT: Salem (inj), Spencer, Stretch, (M Jones or Bail out if Viney fit)

We know that Howe and Dawes can play when on song. Howe needs to play forward in Watts' absence. Dropping him (and Dawes) leaves us with more untried d-grader in the line-up.

Have to say I've been increasingly frustrated at Roos' press conferences, I want to see more emotion from him. Like a Scotty, or Dimma.

But after thinking about it I realise theres no point in going out there and saying, "Looking we have a crap list, as soon as one of our best is out we're forced to play people who just aren't up to it." At the end of the day those players are going to have to play for him next week, and he knows it.

I don't want emotion from my coach. It may pander to the emotions we feel after another drubbing, but it doesn't help the situation unless there's substance behind it. I want a methodic, complete consideration of what the problem is and how to address it.

I guess my frustration lay in the fact he wasn't particularly enlightening. I don't think he's often complete or methodical, I think he just throws out rubbish, or excuses. And I find he's begun doing similar on 360. I suppose on some way I relate emotion to hearing the truth, and that's all I want. But then I understand why - re my second paragraph.

It is not a cop out. It is a factor - would mentally weak players (as well as mentally strong ones) not get their confidence up if they had a few weaker teams to play? Of course they would. If players are not at AFL standard, no amount of mental toughness will help. How about us fielding a team of hairy-chested Demonland posters next week. They all would be mentally tough, but I doubt if many could kick a ball 20 metres.

Getting back to the original point, I don't think the AFL was thinking at all when it put us up against 3 top teams in a row. I think they have so many constraints in doing the draw to do with making money, TV etc that the rest of the draw is pot luck. But I would have hoped that one of their constraints would have been to not put a hopefully improving bottom team in such a difficult situation, but apparently it wasn't a priority.

Spencer should have a good week against Ayce Cordy. Will finally get to monster someone. But could just as likely swap him for Gawn.

There is a definite deckchair feel to the side at the moment. The excitement after Round 1 seems a long time ago. I expected these three weeks to hit hard, but not quite this hard.

You mean like Rioli (11 disposals)? Litherland (10), Duryea (16), Breust (14)?

We have to stop focusing on the kids and the players we know aren't part of our core.

We need to focus instead on the key players. Dawes, Dunn, Howe, Tyson, Vince, Garland, Lumumba and Cross all need to improve much, much more than we need M Jones, Bail or Michie getting tonnes of disposals.

It's a joke that a kid who has only played 6 games is already so much more of a better player than he is. Whilst Pedersen is a late call up and has done more in a single game than Dawes has all year.
