It will be interesting to see if the B&F results reflect the lopsided result on here. Hopefully he can pull a vote or two in the Brownlow too, though key defenders in losing sides don't tend to be in favour much.

My observation is that the DL 1st two vote getters each week are usually on the mark...after that votes start to reflect the biases/favourites of the poster.

Think we will be surprised by how players who 'play their role' will poll well in the b&f while they hardly get a mention here, in part because we don't know what those roles are. Toumpas on McV is a good example. Reckon he would have polled very well with the coaches this week but only 1 of 20 posters on here gave him any votes.

Keep in mind, though, that votes often reflect expectations. More is expected of Tyson (and Jones) so when players don't live up to expectations they tend to get marked harder.

(I found the first three reasonably easy to give, the last three were much harder as each of those players were flawed in aspects of their game. Just less flawed than the rest.)

Unbelievable that Vandenberg is down at 15 votes.

He should be up with Viney considering how many games Viney has missed.

Thing is, the votes are 'best 6'. Vandenberg might have been seventh best for every game.

It is not a perfect voting system but it generally will pick out the very best.

Also, I really enjoy gloating to anyone who will listen about how three months ago I was telling anyone who would listen that Tom McDonald was going to be a star. But I think we were all thinking it here - just saying it quietly to avoid invoking the rage of football's cruel gods.

A good indicator is that Tommy is equal fourth in the coaches' votes (after round 5 ).

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
